The Staff Selection Commission has released the admit cards for the SSC CGL Tier 1 Examination 2026, and this year’s exam is already underway. If you are one of the 28,52,665 candidates who applied for roughly 10,731 Group B and Group C posts, your exam is scheduled somewhere between 30 September and 30 October 2026 — in one of three shifts, at one of 141 centres across 34 states and union territories. Here is everything that actually matters: how to download the hall ticket, the exact shift timings, the new sectional timer, and the one confusion (city slip vs admit card) that trips up thousands of candidates every single year.
Exam date notice released: 12 September 2026 (ssc.gov.in)
Vacancies revised: 24 September 2026 — 12,556 → 10,731 (tentative)
City intimation slip released: 21 September 2026
Admit cards (first exam dates) released: 27 September 2026
Tier 1 exam window: 30 September to 30 October 2026 (computer-based, three shifts a day)
On Which Date Is Your Exam?
The official notice lists Tier 1 dates, and because the candidate pool is enormous, the exam is spread over a full month. The listed dates are:
- 30 September & 1 October 2026
- 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 October 2026
- 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16 October 2026
- 22, 23 & 24 October 2026
- 27 & 28 October 2026
Your exact date, shift and centre are printed on your own admit card and city intimation slip. If you missed your slot, do not guess from someone else’s card — check yours.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Shift Timings 2026
Each shift’s paper runs for exactly one hour. Report on time — the gate closes one hour after reporting, and late entry is not allowed.
| Shift | Reporting Time | Gate Closes | Exam Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning | 8:30 AM | 9:30 AM | 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM |
| Afternoon | 12:00 PM | 1:00 PM | 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM |
| Evening | 3:30 PM | 4:30 PM | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM |

Step 2: Open the SSC CGL 2026 Tier 1 admit card link and log in with your Registration Number plus Password or Date of Birth.
Step 3: Check the card on screen — name, photograph, exam date, shift, and centre address.
Step 4: Download the PDF and take at least two clean printouts. One stays in the bag as backup.
The Sectional Timer: What Changed This Year
This is the detail that matters most for how you actually sit the paper. SSC has introduced a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each of the four sections in Tier 1 this year. The paper still has 100 questions for 200 marks — 25 questions of 2 marks each in General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension — and the total duration is still one hour.
What the timer changes in practice:
- You can no longer finish your strong section early and bank the leftover time for a weaker one. Once 15 minutes are up in a section, you move on.
- Each question in a section effectively gets 36 seconds. If you are the kind of candidate who spends four minutes on one tricky quant question and recovers time elsewhere, that habit will now cost you — drill yourself to let go.
- Attempt full-length mocks with the 15-minute section timer switched on, not a single one-hour clock. Train for the format you will actually face.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern 2026
| Section | Questions | Marks | Sectional Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Intelligence & Reasoning | 25 | 50 | 15 minutes |
| General Awareness | 25 | 50 | 15 minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 50 | 15 minutes |
| English Comprehension | 25 | 50 | 15 minutes |
| Total | 100 | 200 | 60 minutes |
Note the vacancy revision: the tentative count moved from 12,556 down to 10,731 on 24 September 2026. Always work with the revised figure.
Important Instructions for Exam Day
✓ Carry the admit card printout plus a valid original photo ID (Aadhaar, voter ID, PAN, driving licence or passport).
✓ Reach the centre by your shift’s reporting time. The gate closes one hour after reporting — latecomers are turned away.
✓ Follow only the date, shift and centre printed on your admit card, not anyone else’s.
✓ Remember the 15-minute sectional timer: plan per section, not for the whole hour.
✗ Do not carry barred items to the centre — check the notice PDF for the prohibited-items list.
✗ Do not rely on the city intimation slip at the gate; it is not a valid entry document.
What Happens After Tier 1
SSC is expected to release the Tier 1 answer key in the first week of November 2026, and Tier 2 is tentatively planned for December 2026. Neither date is officially confirmed in the information available — treat them as expected timelines and wait for the official notice before making any plans.
FAQs
Q1. Where do I download the SSC CGL Tier 1 admit card 2026?
Log in at ssc.gov.in with your Registration Number and Password or Date of Birth, open the Tier 1 admit card link, verify your details, and download the PDF. Use the “Download Admit Card” link in the Important Links section below.
Q2. When is the SSC CGL Tier 1 exam 2026?
From 30 September to 30 October 2026, in three shifts daily, as per the notice released on 12 September 2026.
Q3. What is the difference between the city intimation slip and the admit card?
The slip (released 21 September) shows only your exam city. The admit card shows the full centre address, shift and reporting time, and is the only document accepted at the gate.
Q4. The admit card link says “not active” for me. What does that mean?
Most likely your exam is on a later date — SSC releases cards in batches linked to exam dates. Check again a few days before your date from the official date list.
Q5. What are the shift timings?
Morning 10:00–11:00 AM (report 8:30), afternoon 1:30–2:30 PM (report 12:00), evening 5:00–6:00 PM (report 3:30). Gates close an hour after reporting time.
Q6. Is there a sectional timer in SSC CGL Tier 1 2026?
Yes — new this year. Each of the four sections gets exactly 15 minutes; you cannot carry leftover time from one section to another.
