SBI Chief Manager & Manager Recruitment 2026: 7 SCO Posts, Apply by 23 Nov
Railway Recruitment Cell, Northern Railway (RRC NR) has opened a rare kind of railway vacancy — not for engineers, clerks or technicians, but for performers. Under Advertisement No. RRC/NR/02/2026/CQ, dated 4 November 2026, there are just 2 posts under the Cultural Quota: one Drama Artist (Male/Female) for Acting and one Classical Kathak Dancer for Dance. Both carry Level-2 pay under the 7th Central Pay Commission, and posting can be anywhere over Northern Railway.
Do not rush to the portal today: the online application window opens on 6 November 2026 and closes on 6 December 2026. What makes this drive different from a normal railway recruitment is the selection itself — your stage skill is worth almost as much as your written test. The written test carries 50 marks, the practical demonstration (talent test) carries 35 marks, and testimonials and prizes carry 15 marks. A brilliant performer who treats the written paper as an afterthought, or a strong test-taker with no stage record, can both lose out here.
Applications open tomorrow, 6 November 2026 — not today. If the RRC NR portal shows no Cultural Quota link on 5 November, that is expected. The window runs 6 November to 6 December 2026, and the fee must be paid online by 6 December 2026. The expected date of the online written examination and talent assessment is January 2027.

| Post | Vacancies | Age limit | Pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drama Artist (Male/Female) for Acting | 1 | 18–30 years | Level-2, 7th CPC |
| Classical Kathak Dancer for Dance | 1 | 18–30 years | Level-2, 7th CPC |
| Total | 2 |
One point that surprises many applicants: no post is reserved for SC, ST or OBC candidates in this notification — both posts are open to all candidates. Reservation-style age relaxation still applies as per Railway Board rules (see the age table below), but there is no reserved vacancy to claim.
Eligibility: The Cultural Qualification Is Non-Negotiable
For the Drama Artist post, you need a Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Drama (Acting) from a government-recognised institute, plus 12th (+2 stage) or equivalent with not less than 50% marks in aggregate — or, alternatively, Matriculation plus a Course Completed Act Apprenticeship approved by NCVT/SCVT, or Matriculation plus ITI approved by NCVT/SCVT. The Kathak Dancer post mirrors this exactly, with the cultural qualification in Classical Kathak Dance instead of Drama.
The notice is blunt on one point: no relaxation in the educational and cultural qualification is permissible. A general degree, a dance hobby without a recognised certificate, or stage experience without the prescribed qualification will not carry you through document verification, however good your performance. Candidates already in government service must apply with an NOC from their employer, and candidates debarred for life (or for a period not yet completed) from RRB/RRC examinations need not apply.
Two things that strengthen an application, though they are listed as desirable rather than essential: a valid certificate showing experience in the field and performances given on AIR or Doordarshan, and a valid certificate showing prizes won in competitions held at national level by the concerned academy or a government-recognised body. Remember, testimonials and prizes are not just decoration here — they carry 15 of the 100 marks.
Age Limit and Relaxation (as on 1 January 2027)
| Category | Age relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| PwD (40% and above) | 10 years (UR), 13 years (OBC-NCL), 15 years (SC/ST) |
| Ex-servicemen (more than 6 months’ service after attestation) | Service rendered in Defence plus 3 years |
| Domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir (01/01/1980 to 31/12/1989) | 5 years |
| Serving Group C / erstwhile Group D railway staff, casual labour and substitutes with 3 years’ service | Up to 40 years (UR), 43 years (OBC-NCL), 45 years (SC/ST) |
| Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women (not remarried) | Up to 35 years (UR), 38 years (OBC-NCL), 40 years (SC/ST) |
Application Fee — And the Refund Most Applicants Miss
| Category | Fee | Refund |
|---|---|---|
| All candidates except those below | Rs. 500 | Rs. 400 refunded on actually appearing in the written examination |
| SC/ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, women, minorities and economically backward classes | Rs. 250 | Full Rs. 250 refunded on actually appearing in the written examination |
The refund is the part worth reading twice. The fee is not simply “non-refundable” — it comes back if you actually sit the written examination. Paying the fee and then skipping the exam is the one way to lose it. Payment is online only, and any service charge is borne by the candidate. The last date to pay is 6 December 2026.
Selection and Exam Pattern: 50 + 35 + 15
Selection runs in stages: written test (or computer/tablet-based test), practical demonstration (talent test), document verification and medical examination. Candidates up to five times the number of vacancies are called for the practical demonstration and document verification on merit in the written test — with only 2 vacancies, that means roughly the top 10 written-test scorers reach the talent stage.
| Stage | Questions / content | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Written test / CBT / TBT | General Awareness, Mathematics, General Intelligence, Reasoning and General Knowledge on Cultural Activities / Cultural Area | 50 (50 objective questions) | 1 hour |
| Practical Demonstration (talent test) | Practical demonstration in the relevant field | 35 | — |
| Testimonials / Prizes | Certificates of experience, performances and prizes | 15 | — |
Three exam rules to note: there is negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer in the written test; a minimum of 40% marks in the written examination is needed to be eligible for the next stage (with relaxation for reserved categories as per Railway Board rules); and the question paper is bilingual — candidates choose Hindi or English in the application form. For the talent test, applicants must bring their own musical instrument or cultural uniform for the practical demonstration — the railway does not provide them.
Prepare for the talent test, not just the paper. With only 2 posts, the written test merely gets you into a shortlist of about 10. The 35-mark practical demonstration and the 15-mark testimonial score then decide who actually gets the job. Keep your performance certificates, AIR/Doordarshan proofs and national-level prize certificates ready in the prescribed format — a missing certificate at document verification cannot be fixed afterwards.
How to Apply Online (6 November – 6 December 2026)
- Go to www.rrcnr.org between 6 November 2026 and 6 December 2026.
- Read the notification and tick the undertaking box at the end confirming you have read the notification and instructions.
- Click APPLY ONLINE and choose Login (already registered) or New Registration.
- Complete the dashboard parts: Registration Form, Application Form, Payment of Examination Fee, Uploading Documents, Online Payment Details Print and Application Details/Print.
- Upload your photograph, signature, thumb impression and the required certificates.
- Complete the application in all respects before the 6 December 2026 deadline.
Documents to keep ready include proof of date of birth (10th or Matric pass certificate), proof of the essential educational and cultural qualification, SC/ST/OBC/minority/economically backward/PwD/NOC certificates in the prescribed annexure format where applicable, and your photograph, signature and thumb impression. On the day of document verification, carry original documents with one set of self-attested photocopies. No TA/DA or accommodation is paid; SC/ST candidates with a proper community certificate get a free travel authority (2nd class).
Common Mistakes That Cost Candidates a Cultural Quota Post
- Trying to apply on 5 November: the window opens on 6 November. An absent link today is not a portal error.
- Assuming a hobby is enough: without a recognised Degree/Diploma/Certificate in Drama or Kathak, document verification will stop you — there is no relaxation in the cultural qualification.
- Ignoring the 15 testimonial marks: AIR/Doordarshan performance certificates and national-level prize certificates are scored, not just filed away.
- Arriving at the talent test empty-handed: you must bring your own musical instrument or cultural uniform for the practical demonstration.
- Paying the fee and skipping the exam: the refund (Rs. 400 of Rs. 500, or the full Rs. 250 for concessional categories) is paid only on actually appearing in the written examination.
- Assuming a reserved seat exists: neither post is reserved for SC, ST or OBC — both are open to all, with age relaxation applying separately.
