The College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Pasighat, has advertised one Project Associate-I (PAT-I) post in its Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities. The post sits in a National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) funded project on Berberis aristata DC. — Daruharidra — a medicinal shrub whose elite genotypes the project wants to conserve and multiply through tissue culture. The engagement is purely temporary and contractual, for one year to start with, and the work is based at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.
One post, one very specific degree, and a short window: the notice is dated 5 November 2026 and emailed applications must reach the college by 16 November 2026. Everything below comes from the official notification (Advt. No. CHF/CAU/BSH/NMPB-BA/Project/2026/3871).

What the Project Actually Does — and Why It Suits Only Some M.Sc. Holders
Berberis aristata, known as Daruharidra, is a Himalayan medicinal shrub valued in Ayurvedic practice, and wild populations are under pressure from over-harvesting. The project’s job is to pick out elite genotypes and produce them at scale through tissue culture, so that planting material does not have to come from the wild every time. That is why the desirable qualification is not a generic line — hands-on plant tissue culture experience is what the lab will actually need day to day: media preparation, sterile handling, sub-culturing and hardening of plantlets.
The essential degree list is narrow on purpose. An M.Sc. in Agriculture Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology or Life Sciences qualifies. If your master’s is in a neighbouring subject — say botany without a biotechnology specialisation, or microbiology — the notice does not list it, so check the official notification carefully before spending time on the application. With a single vacancy, the screening is likely to be strict about the exact degree name.
Pay: The Same Post, Two Salaries — NET/GATE Makes a Rs. 6,000 Difference
The notice fixes two rates of emoluments, both with HRA as per the funding agency:
| Candidate | Pay per month |
|---|---|
| Qualified in CSIR-UGC / ICAR / ICMR NET (including Lectureship / Assistant Professorship) or GATE | Rs. 31,000 + HRA |
| Other candidates | Rs. 25,000 + HRA |
Two things matter here. First, NET or GATE is not an essential qualification — you can apply without it, and the notice is explicit that it only decides the pay. Second, the gap is real money over a year: Rs. 6,000 a month is Rs. 72,000 across the initial one-year term, before HRA. If you qualified NET or GATE but left it off your form, you would be paid at the lower rate, so the NET/GATE details in the application form (the form asks for them from 10th standard onwards) deserve care.
The post is purely temporary, contractual and co-terminus with the project. The initial engagement is for one year and can be extended based on performance and the project’s requirement. The selected candidate will have no claim for regular appointment or absorption in the university — this is project work, not a doorway into a permanent CAU post, and anyone applying should weigh that before turning down steadier options.
Eligibility and Age Limit
| Post | Essential qualification | Desirable | Age limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Project Associate-I (PAT-I) | M.Sc. in Agriculture Biotechnology / Molecular Biology and Biotechnology / Plant Biotechnology / Life Sciences | Experience in Plant Tissue Culture | Maximum 35 years |
Age relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and women candidates applies as per Government of India norms. The application form asks candidates to state their age as on the date of interview, so work it out against the interview date once it is communicated rather than guessing from the advertisement date. No application fee is mentioned anywhere in the notice — if any third party asks you to pay a fee for this post, treat it as a red flag and check the official notification.
How to Apply: Email the Prescribed Form by 16 November
There is no online application portal for this post. Applications go by email, using the application form printed on pages 3 and 4 of the official notification. The email addresses are given in the notification itself — use only those, and keep a copy of the sent mail.
Steps to apply:
- Download the official notification PDF and take the application form from its pages 3 and 4.
- Fill the form in the prescribed proforma: general information, educational qualifications from 10th standard onwards (including NET, if any), experience details, research papers and professional achievements, and any other relevant information.
- Paste a recent passport-size photograph, duly signed, on the form, and sign the declaration with place and date.
- Attach self-attested copies of educational qualification certificates, experience certificates (if any), research papers and professional achievements, and a No Objection Certificate from your employer if you are currently employed.
- Email the duly filled form with all documents to the email addresses given in the notification, on or before 16 November 2026 (Monday).
Selection Process and Interview
Selection is based on academic performance, experience and performance in the interview. There is no written test mentioned in the notice. The date and time of the interview will be communicated separately to shortlisted candidates by email, so the inbox you apply from is the one to watch — check the spam folder too as the date approaches.
No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview, so shortlisted candidates travelling to Pasighat should budget the trip themselves. The competent authority reserves the right to cancel or postpone the interview or to increase or decrease the number of posts without assigning any reason, and canvassing in any form leads to disqualification. The declaration on the form also warns that candidature or appointment can be cancelled without notice if any information is found false or incomplete at any stage — so verify every date and percentage on the form against your certificates before sending it.

Mistakes to Avoid Before You Hit Send
- Waiting for a portal link: there is none. This is an email application, and the form lives inside the notification PDF.
- Sending a CV instead of the proforma: the notice asks for the prescribed form (pages 3 and 4 of the PDF). A free-format CV may not be accepted.
- Leaving NET/GATE out: it is not essential, but it decides whether you are paid Rs. 31,000 or Rs. 25,000 a month.
- Forgetting the signed photograph and the declaration: both are specifically asked for on the form.
- Skipping the NOC: candidates currently employed must attach a No Objection Certificate from their employer.
- Assuming the interview is in Pasighat on a fixed date: the date is emailed to shortlisted candidates only — no date is printed in the notice.
