Thirty central government posts, zero application fee, and openings from 10th-pass Multi-Tasking Staff to a Level-11 Deputy Secretary — the Sahitya Akademi’s 2026 recruitment is one of those rare notifications where the fee column reads “Nil”. But there is a catch: this is a strictly offline recruitment, one envelope per post, and email applications are rejected outright. Last date: 21 October 2026 (extended from 21 September via corrigendum).

Age Limit
Maximum age: 50 years for all 13 posts, counted as on the closing date (21 October 2026). Age relaxation applies as per Government of India rules for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-Servicemen candidates.
A uniform 50-year ceiling from MTS to Deputy Secretary is unusual — good news if you have aged out of other recruitments.
Application Fee
Application fee: Nil for all candidates. The fee originally prescribed (Rs. 1,000 for UR/OBC at Level 10–11, Rs. 800 at Level 1–6, Rs. 500 for SC/ST/Women) was formally withdrawn through the Akademi’s corrigendum. Do not pay anyone any fee for this recruitment.
Selection Process
- Deputy Secretary & Assistant Editor: selection purely on interview performance (no written test specified).
- Level-6 & Level-4 posts (all Assistants, JTO, Proof Reader, Stenographer): 100-mark written test — Part-I objective (50 marks): 30 GS/GK questions plus 5 each from Hindi, English, Computer and Quantitative Aptitude, 1 mark each, no negative marking; Part-II descriptive (50 marks): post-specific. Duration: 2 hours. Stenographer candidates additionally face a qualifying skill test (80 w.p.m. shorthand + typing).
- Level-1 & Level-2 posts (Messenger-cum-Rider, Van Driver, Junior Clerk, MTS): 100-mark written test — Part-I objective (60 marks): 40 GS/GK plus 5 each from Hindi Grammar, English Grammar, Computer and Quantitative Aptitude; Part-II descriptive (40 marks): Essay, Letter, Comprehension, Notice/Advertisement (10 each). Duration: 2 hours. Driver/Rider candidates additionally undergo a qualifying driving test; Junior Clerk candidates a qualifying typing test (35 w.p.m. English / 30 w.p.m. Hindi).
Qualifying marks: 40% for UR and 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD, in each part separately. Only shortlisted candidates are called; final stages are document verification and medical examination.
How to Apply Offline — Step by Step
- Download the prescribed form from the Akademi’s official website — separate proformas exist for Deputy Secretary, Assistant Editor and all other posts. Any other format gets rejected.
- Fill every column — write “NA” where not applicable, never leave blanks. The reference number is the first 3 letters of your name in capitals plus birth year (e.g., MUK1995 for Mukesh Kumar, born 1995).
- Affix a recent self-attested photograph and attach self-attested copies of educational, experience and category certificates.
- One post = one application. Eligible for two posts? Send two separate complete applications — applying twice for the same post can cancel your candidature.
- Superscribe the envelope: “Application for the post of ______” with the exact post name.
- Send only by Speed Post/Registered Post to: The Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, Rabindra Bhavan, 35 Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi – 110001.
- Reach by 21 October 2026, 5:00 PM. Late, unsigned, incomplete or undocumented applications are rejected outright — postal delay is entirely your risk.
Documents Checklist
- Self-attested recent passport-size photograph (affixed on the form)
- Self-attested copies of educational and experience certificates
- Date-of-birth proof (self-attested)
- Category certificate in GoI format — OBC certificates must state non-creamy-layer status
- NOC if serving in government/autonomous bodies/PSUs (or apply through proper channel)
- For Level-10+ serving candidates: last 5 years’ ACRs/APARs, integrity certificate, vigilance clearance
Common Mistakes That Get Forms Rejected
These are the exact rejection grounds the notification lists:
- Email applications are not accepted — only Speed Post/Registered Post.
- One envelope, two posts — each post needs its own separate application and envelope.
- Wrong or missing superscription on the envelope (“Application for the post of ___”).
- Unsigned or incomplete form, or columns left blank instead of “NA”.
- Documents not self-attested, or the photograph missing.
- OBC certificate without the non-creamy-layer clause.
- Government servants applying without NOC or through proper channel.
- Applying twice for the same post — leads to cancellation.
- Posting at the last minute — the Akademi disowns all responsibility for postal delay.
