MPHC Stenographer & Assistant Grade-III Recruitment 2026 Is Live

The High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur has released Advertisement No. 666/Exam/2026 dated 06 October 2026 for the direct recruitment of 418 Stenographers and Assistant Grade-III in the District and Sessions Courts of Madhya Pradesh. The online application window opened on 06 October 2026 at 12:00 noon and closes on 27 October 2026 at 5:00 PM — and this is one of those notifications where a single wrong click in the form can quietly disqualify you from your best post. Read the sections below before you touch the apply button.

Why This Notification Deserves a Careful Read

Most recruitment notices are skimmable. This one is not. Four traps and twists are buried in its fine print, and each one directly affects your chances.

1. Two of the four posts play by different reservation rules. The 20 posts of Stenographer Grade-III (Court Manager Staff) and the 30 posts of Assistant Grade-III (English Knowing) are entirely unreserved — SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates are treated as unreserved for these posts, with zero reserved vacancies. If you are counting on category reservation, your real battlefield is the 368 posts of Stenographer Grade-II and Grade-III.

2. The post choice you make in the form is permanent. You must select your preferred post(s) in the online form on the basis of the qualifications shown against each post — and once filled, it cannot be changed. Results are prepared post-by-post in descending order (Grade-II first, then Grade-III, then Court Manager Staff, then Assistant Grade-III English Knowing). Even if you score marks worthy of a higher post, you will be considered only for the post you chose. Decide your order of preference before registering, not during.

3. Your preliminary exam marks count for nothing in the end. The 100-mark online preliminary test is screening only — its marks are not added to the final merit. Only candidates up to a 1:5 ratio per category reach the shorthand skill test, and the final result rests entirely on the skill test. Preparing for the prelims is still necessary, but your shorthand speed is what actually gets you the job.

4. There is a two-lakh-rupee bond. Selected candidates must execute a Rs. 2,00,000 bond and serve for at least three years. Resign early or break its conditions, and the bond becomes enforceable. This is a long-term commitment — apply only if you are ready to stay.

Important Dates

Event Date & Time
Online application starts 06.10.2026, 12:00 noon
Last date to apply online (with fee payment) 27.10.2026, 5:00 PM

The advertisement states plainly that no request for extension of the last date will be accepted, and the fee must also be paid within the same window — an unpaid form is treated as automatically rejected.

Post-Wise Vacancy Breakup & Pay Scale

Sl. No. Post Name Posts Pay Scale (6th Pay) Pay Matrix (7th Pay)
1 Stenographer Grade-II 69 5200–20200 + GP 2800 Rs. 28,700 – 91,300
2 Stenographer Grade-III 299 5200–20200 + GP 2400 Rs. 25,300 – 80,500
3 Stenographer Grade-III (Court Manager Staff) 20 5200–20200 + GP 1900 Rs. 19,500 – 62,000
4 Assistant Grade-III (English Knowing) 30 5200–20200 + GP 1900 Rs. 19,500 – 62,000
Total 418

Reservation notes from the advertisement: 35% horizontal reservation for women, 10% for ex-servicemen and 6% for persons with disabilities. The OBC reservation (14% raised to 27% by the MP Amendment Act 2019) is sub-judice (WP No. 5901/2019), so results will be declared in two parts — a main result for 87% of posts and a provisional result for 13% of posts, subject to the final High Court decision. Further, 20% of posts are horizontally reserved for candidates who have worked at least 5 years on contract against an equivalent post in the MP High Court or District Courts. Reservation and age relaxation apply only to original residents (domiciles) of Madhya Pradesh — candidates from other states must apply as Unreserved.

Eligibility Criteria — Post-Wise Qualification

All qualifications must be held by the last date of online application (27.10.2026). Four qualifications apply to every post, with the shorthand language and speed differing:

Post Qualification Required
Stenographer Grade-II Graduation in any discipline + valid CPCT score card + Hindi shorthand exam passed at 100 WPM + one-year Computer Application diploma
Stenographer Grade-III Graduation in any discipline + valid CPCT score card + Hindi shorthand exam passed at 80 WPM + one-year Computer Application diploma
Stenographer Grade-III (Court Manager Staff) Graduation in any discipline + valid CPCT score card + Hindi shorthand exam passed at 80 WPM + one-year Computer Application diploma
Assistant Grade-III (English Knowing) Graduation in any discipline + valid CPCT score card + English shorthand exam passed at 80 WPM + one-year Computer Application diploma

The CPCT score card must be from MAP-IT or another agency/institution recognised by the MP Government; the shorthand exam and computer diploma must be from a board/institution recognised by the MP Government.

The computer-diploma fine print most people miss: the one-year diploma must come from a UGC-recognised university, an open university recognised by UGC, DOEACC/NIELIT, a Government Polytechnic College (Modern Office Management course), or a Government ITI (COPA certificate). B.E./B.Tech (CSE/IT), MCA, BCA and B.Sc./M.Sc. (IT/CS) are also accepted — but a B.Sc./B.Com. degree in which only one subject of computer is studied is NOT valid. Check this before you apply.

Age Limit (as on 01.01.2026)

Category Maximum Age
Male candidates of MP and other states (Unreserved) 40 years
Male candidates of MP (EWS) 40 years
MP candidates — OBC / SC / ST (male and female) 45 years
All female and all disabled candidates (MP and other states) 45 years
Employees of MP Government / Corporation / Board / Autonomous bodies and Nagar Sainik 45 years

Minimum age is 18 years for all candidates. Ex-servicemen get their defence service period deducted from age (resulting age must not exceed the maximum by more than 3 years); contract employees of the High Court/District Courts with 5+ years of service get relaxation equal to their service period, up to age 55.

Application Fee

Category Exam Fee Portal / Service Provider Fee Total Payable
Unreserved and candidates from outside MP Rs. 200 Rs. 743.40 Rs. 943.40
OBC, SC, ST, EWS (original residents of MP only) and all disabled candidates Nil (exempt) Rs. 743.40 Rs. 743.40

Payment is online via debit card or internet banking after submitting the form. The fee is non-refundable, and entries related to the fee cannot be changed once entered. Note: candidates who qualify for the skill test must separately pay a Rs. 743.40 portal fee to the service provider through a link on the High Court website — non-payment cancels the candidature for the skill test.

Selection Process — Two Stages

Stage 1: Online Preliminary Examination (100 marks, screening only). A common MCQ paper of 100 questions (1 mark each), 120 minutes, at centres including Jabalpur, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Sagar, Satna and Ujjain. Its marks do not count in the final result; candidates up to a 1:5 ratio per category qualify for the skill test.

Syllabus Questions Marks Medium
GK + GS (including MP GK) 20 20 Hindi and English
Maths + Logical Reasoning 20 20 Hindi and English
General Hindi 20 20 Hindi
English Knowledge 20 20 English
Computer Knowledge 20 20 English

Stage 2: Hindi/English Stenography Skill Test (100 marks). A dictation of about 400 words in 5 minutes, followed by 30 minutes for transcription on a computer (keyboard provided at the centre — you cannot bring your own). Hindi transcription must be done in Remington Gail. Evaluation is strict: 0.5 mark is deducted for every error (wrong words, spelling, omissions, punctuation, spacing), and more than 120 errors means zero marks — the sheet is not evaluated further. Minimum qualifying marks: General and OBC 55%, SC 45%, ST and disabled 40%, EWS 49.5%. In case of equal marks, the older candidate gets preference.

Double-check your name, mobile number and email before the first submit. For form problems, the advertisement lists the service provider help desk: 919513253398.

Bond, Posting & Other Conditions

Selected candidates must execute a Rs. 2,00,000 bond to serve for at least three years (waived only for those joining MP/Central Government service with prior permission). The district of posting is allotted through counselling on category-wise merit — you have no right to a particular district or post, and requests for change after counselling are not considered. The appointing authority for all posts is the Principal District and Sessions Judge of the concerned district. No travel allowance is payable for appearing in the preliminary exam or the skill test. Any corrigendum will be published on the High Court website and treated as part of the advertisement — check mphc.gov.in regularly.
