The CRPF Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 window is open — and it opened this morning. The Central Reserve Police Force has started accepting online applications for 521 Head Constable (GD) and Constable (GD) posts reserved for meritorious sportspersons, and the link on the official recruitment portal went live at 9:00 AM today, 12 October 2026. Applications close on 11 November 2026 at 11:59 PM.
Before you scroll to the dates table, read the next paragraph — it decides whether you should apply at all. This recruitment does not work like ordinary CRPF constable bharti. There is no written examination. Your selection rests on the sports medals and participation records you earned in a specific two-year window — and the notification is brutally clear that certificates outside that window do not count. Most rejections in sports-quota recruitments happen not on the ground, but on paper, weeks before any trial. This article is built to keep you out of that pile.

The Medal Window: The Two-Year Rule That Decides Everything
Here is the single most misunderstood rule of this notification, and the one worth a full section. Your sports achievements count only if earned between 30 September 2024 and 30 September 2026 — the two years preceding the advertisement’s publication. A national medal from 2023, however impressive, is worthless for this application. A state championship from August 2024? Out by a month. The notification treats this as a hard gate: candidates without a qualifying certificate inside the window are told not to apply at all.
Why is the board so strict? Because the merit list itself is built from your achievements. Unlike ordinary recruitments where everyone writes the same paper, here your “score” is your best medal or participation record, converted into marks. An Olympic gold fetches 100 marks; a senior national individual gold gets 30; even bare participation at the national level carries marks. Only your single highest achievement inside the window counts — a second medal does not add up. So the entire competition happens on paper before anyone sets foot on the ground: the board ranks you on what you already won.
The honest takeaway: if your best certificate is dated before 30 September 2024, stop here and save your fee and effort. If it falls inside the window, you are holding the most valuable part of this application in your hands already — everything else (PST, trial, medical) is about not losing what your medal has earned you.
Vacancy Break-up: 521 Posts Across 22 Disciplines
The 521 posts split into 408 for men and 113 for women, distributed post-wise as follows:
| Post | Male | Female | Total | Pay Level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Head Constable (GD) — Sports Quota | 150 | 32 | 182 | Level 4: Rs. 25,500 – 81,100 |
| Constable (GD) — Sports Quota | 258 | 81 | 339 | Level 3: Rs. 21,700 – 69,100 |
| Total | 408 | 113 | 521 | — |
Discipline-wise, the distribution is heavily tilted — and this is where smart applicants pay attention:
| Sports Discipline | Total Posts |
|---|---|
| Athletics | 101 |
| Aquatics (Swimming, Diving, Water Polo) | 60 |
| Shooting | 53 |
| Kabaddi | 27 |
| Wrestling | 26 |
| Football | 22 |
| Boxing | 20 |
| Volleyball | 20 |
| Water Sports (Kayaking, Canoeing, Rowing) | 20 |
| Wushu | 20 |
| Weightlifting | 19 |
| Karate | 17 |
| Basketball | 16 |
| Judo | 16 |
| Hockey | 15 |
| Taekwondo | 14 |
| Gymnastics | 12 |
| Handball | 12 |
| Yoga (Yogasana) | 12 |
| Body Building | 11 |
| Badminton | 5 |
| Archery | 3 |
| Grand Total | 521 |
One caution the notification repeats: these numbers are tentative and can be increased or decreased. More importantly, each discipline is further broken down by specific event, weight category, gender, and post in the official notification — Athletics alone is split across events like 100m, 400m, long jump and javelin. Apply under the exact event/weight category that matches your certificate. A wrestler’s medal in the 74 kg class does not help an application filed under the 86 kg vacancy, and a mismatch at document verification ends the journey there.
Eligibility: Who Can Actually Apply
Two qualifications must both be in your hands as on 11 November 2026 — result-awaited candidates are not eligible, and the notification says so plainly.
Educational qualification:
| Post | Education Required |
|---|---|
| Head Constable (GD) | 10+2 (Intermediate) or equivalent from a recognized Board/University |
| Constable (GD) | Matriculation (10th) or equivalent from a recognized Board |
Sports qualification — this is the real filter, and it differs by post:
For Head Constable (GD) — you must have, within the eligible window: represented the country in a recognized international competition (with Department of Sports clearance); OR represented your State/UT in National Games/Championships with a medal or position up to 3rd place; OR secured 1st/2nd position in an individual event at Inter-University tournaments (team events count if the team reached the finals); OR won gold/silver at Junior National level games organized by a recognized National Sports Federation.
For Constable (GD) — you must have, within the eligible window: represented your State in Senior/Junior National championships; OR represented your State school team in School Nationals (SGFI) with a medal or position up to 3rd place; OR represented your State/UT in Khelo India University/Youth/Winter Games with a medal or position up to 3rd place; OR represented your University in Inter-University tournaments.
Notice the pattern: the 10th/12th pass requirement is the easy part — nearly every sportsperson applicant clears it. The sports qualification, earned inside that two-year window, is where the field actually narrows. Before filling the form, lay your certificates on the table, check the dates first and the competition level second.
Age Limit and Relaxation
| Particular | Detail |
|---|---|
| Age limit (both posts) | 18 to 23 years |
| Cut-off date | 1 August 2026 |
| Date of birth range | Not before 02.08.2003 and not after 01.08.2008 |
Age relaxation for meritorious sportspersons (cumulative with category relaxation):
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 8 years (5+3) |
| SC / ST | 10 years (5+5) |
| Ex-Servicemen (UR / OBC / SC-ST) | 8 / 11 / 13 years (after deducting military service from actual age) |
Only the date of birth recorded in your matriculation certificate counts — there is no scope for a later correction, so verify it before you start typing.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| Male — UR / OBC / EWS | Rs. 100 (online payment only, through the recruitment website) |
| All female candidates | Nil |
| SC / ST / Ex-Servicemen | Nil |
The fee is non-refundable under any circumstances. Note that the exemption is broad — every female candidate pays nothing regardless of category, which is worth stating plainly because fee confusion is one of the commonest queries on sports-quota posts.
Selection Process: No Written Exam — Here’s What Actually Happens
This is the section most applicants skim, and it is the one that most rewards a careful read. Selection runs in a fixed sequence, and each stage eliminates:
1. Identity check & documentation. Original certificates for age, education, sports achievements, domicile and category are verified first. No originals, no further stages. Government employees must produce a No Objection Certificate here — applications without an NOC are not accepted.
2. Marking of sports achievements. Your single best medal/position inside the window is converted into marks (Olympic gold 100 down through national and university levels). This marking — not any test — builds the merit list.
3. Physical Standard Test (PST). Height: 170 cm (male) / 157 cm (female); chest 80 cm unexpanded with minimum 5 cm expansion (male only); weight proportionate to height and age. Relaxations exist for ST candidates, candidates from North-Eastern states, Garhwalis/Kumaonis/Dogras/Marathas, J&K/Ladakh candidates and others — check the notification’s relaxation table if you claim one, and carry the prescribed certificate (Annexure-I).
4. Sports Trial Test — the stage people misunderstand. The trial is conducted by a Board of Officers and is purely qualifying (pass/fail) — it adds zero marks to your merit. Its purpose is different from the PST: the PST checks your body meets the force’s physical standards; the trial checks you are genuinely the sportsperson your certificate claims, by making you perform. Candidates can also be subjected to a dope test on the trial day, and there is no appeal or re-conduct of the trial. Prepare for the trial as a formality that can still end your candidature — show up fit, in form, and clean.
5. Detailed Medical Examination (DME) / Review Medical Examination (RME). Conducted per CAPF medical guidelines: minimum distance vision 6/6 and 6/9 in both eyes without correction; colour-blind candidates are not eligible; knock knee, flat foot, varicose veins and squint are disqualifying; tattoos are restricted in content, location and size. Candidates declared unfit in DME may opt for RME.
Where marks tie, preference follows a fixed order: international representation first, then senior/junior national medals (senior over junior), then inter-university/Khelo India university medals, then Khelo India youth/winter medals, then school national medals, then bare participation in the same order.
Pay Scale, Bond and Service Conditions
Head Constable (GD) sportspersons join at Pay Matrix Level 4 (Rs. 25,500 – 81,100); Constable (GD) at Level 3 (Rs. 21,700 – 69,100), plus Dearness Allowance, HRA and other CRPF allowances as admissible. These are Group ‘C’ posts, temporary but likely to be made permanent.
Two conditions deserve honest mention. First, the posts carry all-India service liability, including abroad — you serve wherever the Force posts you, governed by the CRPF Act 1949 and Rules 1955. Second, selected candidates must execute a Rs. 1,00,000 bond committing to a minimum of 3 years of service to promote sports in the Force before resigning for other employment. This is a sports-quota recruitment — the Force is investing in its teams, and the bond makes that expectation contractual.
