First, the Honest Question: Is This a Permanent HAL Job?
No — and HAL is unusually blunt about it. This is an engagement for a maximum of 3 years from the date of joining, with no extension. The tenure ends automatically when 3 years are over, without further notice, and HAL takes a written undertaking from you at joining that the engagement is temporary. Either side can end it with one month’s notice (or basic+DA in lieu). It does not give you the status of a regular HAL executive, and there is no absorption promise.
That is not a reason to reject it — it is a reason to apply with eyes open. For a 2024–2026 engineering graduate still hunting for a first job, this is 3 years inside India’s biggest aerospace PSU: fighter jets, helicopters, aero-engines, avionics, and a HAL line on your resume that no private coaching certificate will ever match. For someone already holding a permanent job, though, quitting for this would be a poor trade — this is a career launchpad, not a career landing.
One more consequence of the short-term design: selected candidates can be posted to any HAL division, office or base as per requirement, and no request for a change of posting is entertained after joining. Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Hyderabad, Nasik, Koraput, Barrackpore, Lucknow, Kanpur and Korwa are among the stations named in the notification — apply only if you are willing to move.
Vacancy Breakup: 150 Posts Across 9 Disciplines
| Discipline | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Mechanical | 78 |
| Electrical | 25 |
| Electronics | 21 |
| Civil | 7 |
| Computer Science | 6 |
| Production | 6 |
| Metallurgy | 3 |
| Aeronautical | 2 |
| Chemical | 2 |
| Total | 150 |
Category-wise, the 150 seats split into UR 61, OBC-NCL 38, SC 25, EWS 15, ST 11, with 6 vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities distributed across categories. Mechanical alone takes more than half the posts — if you are a mechanical engineer with a strong aggregate, this is the single biggest short-term PSU opening of the month for your branch.
The 60% Marks Gate: Your Degree Percentage IS the Exam Here
Most PSU recruitments use a written test or GATE score to filter lakhs of applicants. HAL’s short-term Junior Executive scheme does something different: it shortlists directly on the aggregate marks of your qualifying engineering degree, calling candidates in the ratio of 1:10 — ten candidates per vacancy in each discipline and category — strictly in descending order of marks.
Think about what that means for you. With 150 vacancies, roughly up to 1,500 candidates will be interviewed. There is no syllabus to cram, no mock test that can move you up — the only number that matters is the percentage printed on your degree. If two candidates tie on marks, the elder candidate is placed first. And merely meeting the 60% (or 50%) eligibility does not guarantee an interview call; the actual cut-off in Mechanical or Electronics will be set by how the applicant pool’s marks stack up.
The strategy is therefore mechanical: apply only in the ONE discipline that matches your degree best (multiple applications in different disciplines lead to outright rejection of all your applications — only the last submission counts if you apply twice in the same discipline). If your branch qualifies you for two disciplines (say, Electrical and Electronics), pick the one where your aggregate marks rank you strongest, not the one with more vacancies. The shortlisting is category-wise as well — UR-grouped candidates compete separately from reserved-category pools.
Eligibility: Who Can Apply
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Nationality | Indian Nationals only |
| Qualification | Regular / full-time Degree in Engineering / Technology (B.E./B.Tech) in the relevant discipline from a recognized institution, under the 10+2+4 system (10+3+3 for lateral entry) |
| Minimum marks | 60% aggregate across all semesters/years for UR/OBC-NCL/EWS; 50% for SC/ST/PwBD — no rounding off |
| Not accepted | Correspondence, distance education, part-time or e-learning degrees are not eligible |
| Age (UR/EWS) | Not above 28 years as on 17.10.2026 |
| Age relaxations | SC/ST — 5 years; OBC-NCL — 3 years; PwBD — 10 years over the applicable category relaxation; ex-servicemen as per rules |
Two conditions that trip candidates every year: first, the aggregate is computed by summing the total maximum marks and total obtained marks across all semesters — not a CGPA-to-percentage formula of your own invention. If your university awards CGPA, convert it as per your university’s own norms and keep the conversion certificate ready for the interview. Second, a 5/6-year integrated degree in the relevant discipline is also eligible, but diploma-only marks do not count — you must enter the engineering degree marks as the qualifying marks.
Application Fee and the Payment Warning
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| UR / OBC-NCL / EWS | Rs.500 (inclusive of 18% GST) |
| SC / ST / PwBD | Nil (exempted) |
Payment is online only, through SBI Collect (credit card, internet banking, UPI, etc.), and the fee is non-refundable under all circumstances. Here is the catch most candidates learn the hard way: HAL says payment validation takes 48 to 72 hours, and only after validation can you download the final submitted application form. If you pay on the morning of 17 October, your form may never get validated before the 14:00 hrs closure — and an incomplete application is summarily rejected. Pay by 13 October at the latest.
What Rs.30,000 Basic Actually Means in Hand
The E0 pay scale runs Rs.30,000–1,20,000 with Rs.30,000 as the starting basic. What the notification adds on top of basic is worth doing the math on:
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Basic pay | Rs.30,000/month |
| Cafeteria allowance | 35% of basic = Rs.10,500/month, fixed |
| Dearness Allowance | On basic, revised quarterly (varies with rates) |
| House Rent Allowance | As per city classification, when company quarter is not provided |
| Annual increment | 3% of basic in the 2nd and 3rd year |
| Medical | Reimbursement up to Rs.25,000/year towards medical insurance cover of Rs.10 lakh |
| Other benefits | PF, gratuity (after 1 year, pro-rata), leave as applicable to regular officers, TA/DA at Grade-I rates, company quarters where available |
So the known fixed part is already Rs.40,500 plus DA plus HRA — the real monthly figure lands well above the headline Rs.30,000 once DA and HRA (which depend on posting city) are added. That is honest PSU pay for a fresher, especially with PF and gratuity accrual included. What you do NOT get: the pension-family package, promotion ladder, or job security of a permanent executive — and the notification says so in so many words.
How to Apply Online: Step by Step
Applications are accepted only online, through the Careers section of www.hal-india.co.in (“Engagement of Junior Executives on Short term Basis-2026”), from 7 October (14:00 hrs) to 17 October 2026 (14:00 hrs).
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Open the HAL careers page and click the link “Engagement of Junior Executives on Short term Basis-2026” |
| 2 | Fill the Eligibility Details carefully — a unique application number is generated and this section cannot be edited later |
| 3 | Complete personal and qualification details; upload a colour passport photograph (JPG, under 100 KB) and signature (JPG, under 50 KB) |
| 4 | UR/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates pay Rs.500 via SBI Collect; SC/ST/PwBD candidates finish at the confirmation page |
| 5 | After 48–72 hours, re-login, confirm payment validation, and download the final submitted application form |
One safety note straight from the notification: HAL will never ask for money through an individual or agency. Queries go only to recruitment.chrc1@hal-india.co.in, and any fake e-mail, WhatsApp message or SMS promising a HAL job for payment should be ignored.
Selection Process: Shortlisting → Interview → Verification → Medical
There is no written examination. The stages, in order:
1. Shortlisting (the real filter). Eligible applications are ranked by aggregate marks in the qualifying degree and called in the ratio of 1:10 (maximum) to the vacancies in each discipline and category. UR candidates plus reserved-category candidates not availing relaxation are first grouped together for the UR pool; the rest compete in their own categories.
2. Personal Interview. Tentatively in November 2026. The selection committee assesses suitability; you must secure at least 50% marks in the interview to qualify (relaxation for SC/ST/PwBD as per rules). Final selection per discipline is on interview performance.
3. Document Verification. Held before the interview — you must produce originals of every particular declared in the form: degree/provisional certificate and marksheets, 10th certificate for date of birth, category/EWS/PwBD certificates in the prescribed format, and a No Objection Certificate if you are employed in government/PSU/armed forces. The OBC-NCL certificate must not be older than 6 months as on 17.10.2026.
4. Pre-employment medical examination. Provisionally selected candidates, including PwBDs, must clear HAL’s medical standards before joining — no relaxation in health standards.
