PSSSB Junior Engineer Recruitment 2026 – Form Reopens 12 Oct, 262 Posts, Exam Postponed

Post Date: 12 Oct 2026 Updated: 12 Oct 2026 By: Raju

If you are a diploma holder in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical engineering, the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board has just handed you a genuine third chance. PSSSB’s public notice dated 9 October 2026 reopens the online application window for Junior Engineer (Civil / Mechanical / Electrical), Group-B posts under Advertisement No. 07/2026 — 262 vacancies in all. The window opens on 12 October 2026 and the last date to apply and pay the fee is 27 October 2026. Candidates who already applied under this advertisement do not need to apply again.

This Is the Third Shot at the Same 262 Posts

Most candidates will not believe how many times this advertisement has come back to life, so let us be precise. PSSSB first advertised these Junior Engineer posts in March 2026, with applications accepted from 13 March to 6 April. That window closed. Then a corrigendum dated 1 September 2026 reopened the form briefly from 1 to 9 September — that one closed too.

Now the 9 October public notice opens the form a third time, from 12 to 27 October 2026. The Board is explicit that it is doing this in compliance with the interim order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court dated 8 October 2026 in CWP No. 32342 of 2026 — not because it wants to, but because the court directed it to. Whatever your opinion of that, the practical meaning is simple: if you missed both earlier windows, you have 16 days this time. There is no indication of a fourth.

The 18 October Exam Is Gone — Postponed Until Further Notice

Here is the part candidates are misreading on social media. The written examination that was scheduled for 18 October 2026 has been postponed until further notice, and it is tied to the same legal proceedings (the 8 October interim order) that forced the reopening.

That means two things. First, do not travel or book anything for 18 October — the exam is not happening. Second, apply now, but do not expect an admit card on the old schedule. PSSSB says the revised exam date will be announced separately through a public notice on its official website. Keep an eye on the Board’s portal after your application is accepted; the fresh date, syllabus, exam pattern and admit-card information will all come from there.

Punjabi Is Not Optional — Check This Before You Pay the Fee

This is the single most common reason applications in Punjab recruitments get rejected, and it will not make itself obvious while you are filling the form. Under the Punjab Civil Services (General and Common Conditions of Service) Rules, 1994, you must have passed Matriculation with Punjabi as a compulsory or elective subject, or an equivalent Punjabi-language examination recognised under the applicable Government rules.

Having a diploma in Civil engineering is not enough on its own. If you studied outside Punjab or your board did not include Punjabi at the 10th level, stop and verify whether you hold a recognised equivalent Punjabi qualification before you pay the Rs. 1,500 fee — because once paid, the fee is non-refundable, and the application is treated as incomplete without successful payment anyway. This is a disqualification you can check today for free; do not discover it at document verification.

Vacancy Details — 262 Posts

Post Name Total Posts Required Discipline
Junior Engineer (Civil) 228 Civil Engineering
Junior Engineer (Mechanical) 2 Mechanical Engineering
Junior Engineer (Electrical) 32 Electrical Engineering
Grand Total 262 Group-B

Mechanical and Electrical candidates, read this carefully: there are only 2 Mechanical and 32 Electrical posts against 228 Civil. Competition in Mechanical will be brutally tight, and the written-exam merit for that stream will decide everything — there is no interview to save you. Choose your discipline in the form according to your qualification, not your preference; the discipline must match your diploma or higher qualification.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline (Civil / Mechanical / Electrical) from a recognised university or institution. A higher qualification in the same discipline — for example a B.Tech in Civil Engineering for the Civil stream — is also accepted. A higher qualification in an unrelated discipline does not count.

Punjabi Language (mandatory): Must have passed Matriculation with Punjabi as a compulsory or elective subject, or an equivalent recognised Punjabi-language examination. See the section above — verify this before applying.

Age Limit (as on 1 January 2026)

Category Age Limit
Minimum age (all categories) 18 years
General 37 years (maximum)
Punjab SC / BC 42 years
State / Central Government employees 45 years
Punjab PwD 47 years
Widows, divorcees and certain eligible married women 40 years
Punjab Ex-Servicemen As per applicable rules

Other-state candidates: the benefit of Punjab’s reservation and fee concessions is available only to eligible Punjab residents. You can still apply, but you must satisfy the educational, Punjabi-language, age and other conditions, and you will be treated as General for fee and reservation. Reservation claimants need a valid category certificate, and the domicile/residence certificate produced at counselling should not be older than five years.

Application Fee

Category Fee
All other (General) candidates Rs. 1,500
Punjab SC / BC candidates Rs. 750
Punjab EWS / Ex-Servicemen / PwD candidates Rs. 500

Payment is online only, and the deadline for fee payment is the same as the application deadline — 27 October 2026. Paid fees are non-refundable, and an application with unsuccessful payment is treated as incomplete.

Pay Scale

All three Junior Engineer streams carry Pay Level-6 with an initial pay of Rs. 35,400. Allowances will be governed by Punjab Government instructions, so the actual in-hand salary will differ from the basic pay.

Selection Process

The selection has no interview. It runs through an objective-type (MCQ) written examination, followed by counselling and document verification for candidates shortlisted on merit. PSSSB will prepare a common merit list from the written exam marks, and departments will be allotted according to merit and vacancy availability. Appearing in the exam or figuring on the merit list does not by itself guarantee appointment — every condition, including the Punjabi qualification, must be satisfied at verification.

How to Apply Online (12 – 27 October 2026)

The apply-online link will go live on sssb.punjab.gov.in on 12 October 2026. The process per the Board’s instructions:

  1. Open the official website and select the recruitment application link for Advertisement No. 07/2026.
  2. New applicants: register first using the Registration option and generate login credentials (registered email as User ID).
  3. Log in and select the relevant Junior Engineer discipline matching your qualification.
  4. Fill personal and educational details carefully, including your category and category code.
  5. Upload your passport-size photograph (live capture where offered) and scanned signature.
  6. Attach your Class 10 certificate, diploma/higher-qualification certificates and other documents through the Attach Annexure option, then save.
  7. Pay the applicable fee online and submit the final application.
  8. Download or print the submitted form for your records.

Two warnings from the advertisement itself: the application is accepted only after successful fee payment, and the Board does not permit corrections after final submission. Review every field twice before you submit — a wrong category code or discipline selection cannot be fixed later.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • Class 10 certificate (also your Punjabi-language proof, in most cases)
  • Engineering Diploma / higher-qualification certificates in the relevant discipline
  • Passport-size photograph and scanned signature
  • Category certificate, if claiming Punjab reservation benefits
  • Punjab residence/domicile certificate (not older than five years), where required
  • Supporting certificates for age relaxation or other claimed benefits
  • Departmental NOC, if you are a government employee claiming age relaxation

FAQs

Q. Who does not need to apply in this reopened window?
A. Anyone who already submitted an application under Advertisement No. 07/2026 — in the March window or the September window — is not required to apply again. The 9 October notice says this explicitly.

Q. Is the 18 October 2026 exam cancelled or postponed?
A. Postponed until further notice. The Board has not announced a fresh date; it will come as a separate public notice on the official website.

Q. Can a B.Tech graduate apply?
A. Yes, if the higher qualification is in the same discipline (B.Tech Civil for JE Civil, and so on). A higher degree in an unrelated field does not satisfy the condition.

Q. I am from another state. Can I apply?
A. Yes, but you will not get Punjab’s reservation or fee concessions, and you must still meet the Punjabi-language, education and age conditions.

Q. Can I edit my form after submitting?
A. No. The advertisement does not permit corrections after final submission, so check every entry before paying and submitting.
