Indian Bank Apprentices Recruitment 2026: 1,500 Posts, Apply 5 to 25 November
Government Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh — one of North India’s busiest teaching hospitals — has opened online applications for 242 posts of Senior Residents, Resident Anaesthetists, Resident Pathologists, CMOs, Demonstrators, Medical Officers, Lady Medical Officers, Emergency Medical Officers and Junior Residents on tenure basis. The application window opened on 15 October 2026 and closes on 28 October 2026 (up to 4:00 PM) at gmch.gov.in.
Before you touch the application form, stop for two minutes. This recruitment has two traps that are already catching applicants — and both come from trusting second-hand websites instead of the official notice. The first is the advertisement number itself: several job portals have published this recruitment with the wrong digits (041276), because the last digits are handwritten on the official notice and were misread. The official Advt No. is GMCH-2EA1/R/October-2026/44276. The second is the age limit: aggregator sites are quoting a flat “21–35 years”, but the official notice sets the upper age limit post-wise — 45, 37 or 30 years depending on the post. Apply with the wrong number in either field and your form starts on the wrong foot. This guide uses the official notification throughout.
Fix These Two Numbers Before Anything Else
| Detail | Correct figure (official notice) |
|---|---|
| Advertisement number | GMCH-2EA1/R/October-2026/44276 (digits are handwritten on the notice; some portals print 041276 — that is wrong) |
| Age limit (as on 28.10.2026) | Not one figure — post-wise: 45 / 37 / 30 years (see the table below; the “21–35” figure on some sites is wrong) |
If you filled the application form using a portal that quotes 041276, do not panic — the form asks for the post name, and the Advt No. matters mainly for your own reference and any future correspondence. But quote 44276 everywhere from now on, so any RTI, email or grievance you raise lands against the right advertisement.
Important Dates: GMCH Chandigarh Recruitment 2026
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Public appointment notice dated | 14 October 2026 |
| Online application starts | 15 October 2026 (one day after publication) |
| Last date to apply online | 28 October 2026, up to 04:00 PM |
| Written test (Chandigarh only) | 3 & 4 November 2026 |

Thirteen days is the entire window. GMCH’s online portal tends to slow down on the final evening — submit in the first week, not on 28 October.
Vacancy Snapshot: 242 Posts, All on Tenure Basis
The notice lists the following posts across the hospital’s various departments:
| Post | Pay band (7th CPC) |
|---|---|
| Senior Residents | Rs. 67,700 (Level-11) + NPA @20% |
| Resident Anaesthetists | Rs. 67,700 (Level-11) + NPA @20% |
| Resident Pathologists | Rs. 67,700 (Level-11) + NPA @20% |
| CMO (General Medicine & General Surgery) | Rs. 67,700 (Level-11) + NPA @20% |
| Demonstrators | Rs. 53,100 (Level-9) |
| Medical Officers (GMCH & MHI) | Rs. 56,100 (Level-10) |
| Lady Medical Officers | Rs. 56,100 (Level-10) |
| Emergency Medical Officers | Rs. 56,100 (Level-10) |
| Junior Residents (MBBS & BDS) | Rs. 56,100 (Level-10) + allowances |
Two honesty notes the notice itself makes. First, the 242 figure is tentative — it can increase or decrease, and it already includes future vacancies that will arise as current tenures complete. Second, this is tenure-basis employment, not permanent. The Junior Resident (MBBS & BDS) tenure specifically commences on 01/01/2027.
Qualification is department- and post-specific: Senior Resident posts need the relevant PG qualification (MD/MS/DNB) in the specialty, Junior Resident posts need MBBS/BDS, and the exact requirement for each department is printed in the notification. Check the official PDF (linked below) against your own degree before applying — this is the one place you cannot afford to guess.
If you are tracking Chandigarh hospital jobs generally, PGI Chandigarh is also hiring separately — see the PGI Chandigarh MTS Recruitment 2026 (54 posts) — though note it is a completely separate recruitment with its own last date.
Age Limit: The Post-Wise Reality (as on 28.10.2026)
This is the section most websites get wrong. The official notice does not set a single age bar. It sets three different upper age limits depending on the post you are applying for:
| Post group | Upper age limit (as on 28.10.2026) |
|---|---|
| Senior Residents / Resident Anaesthetists / Resident Pathologists / CMO (GM & GS) | 45 years |
| Demonstrators / Emergency Medical Officers / Medical Officers (GMCH & MHI) | 37 years |
| Junior Residents (MBBS & BDS) | 30 years |
Age relaxation applies on top of these: 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC, 5 years for government servants applying through the proper channel, and 10 years for widows / deserted women / judicially separated women who have not remarried.
The practical meaning of this table: a 40-year-old doctor who is eligible for a Senior Resident post is not eligible for a Junior Resident post. Match the post to the age row first, then apply.
Application Fee: One Fee, However Many Posts You Apply For
| Category | Fee (online only, non-refundable) |
|---|---|
| SC | Rs. 250 + bank charges |
| All other categories | Rs. 500 + bank charges |
| PwD and REE (UT Chandigarh)-sponsored candidates | Exempt |
Fee is accepted online only — no cheque, demand draft, cash or any physical mode. And candidates applying for multiple posts or departments pay the fee only once, not once per post.
The One-Test Rule: Apply to Many Departments, Sit One Exam
Candidates holding a postgraduate qualification who are eligible for multiple departments can select all their departments of choice in the online application form. They then appear in one test only — the test related to their postgraduate qualification — and the merit obtained is considered for all the departments they applied to.
This is genuinely applicant-friendly, and worth using properly. Instead of guessing which department has the weakest competition, a PG-qualified candidate should list every department they are eligible for — one fee, one test, multiple merit chances. There is no downside to selecting all eligible departments.
Selection Process
- Written test — held in Chandigarh only on 3 & 4 November 2026. No separate letter for the written test or interview will be sent by post.
- Merit list — prepared on the basis of the written test; result declared on 10 November 2026.
- Interview — shortlisted candidates are called for an interview; date will be intimated later.
- Document verification — originals checked before final appointment.
E-admit cards are not sent by post — download them from gmch.gov.in under the VACANCIES tab. No TA/DA is paid for appearing in the written test or interview.
