Jammu and Kashmir job seekers, take note — the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) is inviting online applications for 518 posts under Advertisement Notification No. 08 of 2026. The posts span four departments — Agriculture Production, Health and Medical Education, Higher Education, and Labour and Employment — and include popular profiles like Horticulture Technician Grade-IV, Junior Staff Nurse, Junior Pharmacist, FMPHW/MMPHW and several paramedical roles.
The biggest development, however, is the extension of the last date. Candidates now have time till 24 October 2026 to submit their online application form, instead of the original 9 October deadline. There is one catch though — the cut-off date for your domicile certificate, educational qualification and category certificate remains 9 October 2026. We will break down exactly what that means below, because mixing up the two dates is the most common mistake applicants make.
Advertisement No.: 08 of 2026 (dated 4 August 2026)
Online application started: 10 September 2026
Last date to apply (extended): 24 October 2026
Cut-off date for domicile / qualification / category certificates: 9 October 2026
Exam date: to be notified separately on jkssb.nic.in

Department-Wise and Post-Wise Vacancy Break-Up
JKSSB has clarified that the actual number of posts may go up or down before the selection process is completed, so treat these figures as the notified strength. Below is the post-wise aggregate across all districts and divisions:
| Post | Posts | Cadre |
|---|---|---|
| Health Educator | 15 | Division Kashmir |
| Sanitary Inspector | 14 | Division Kashmir |
| Junior Pharmacist | 211 | District-wise (Budgam, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag, Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora) |

| Horticulture Technician Grade-IV | 45 | District-wise (Kashmir division + Rajouri, Poonch) |
| Agriculture Production sub-total | 46 | |
| Junior Laboratory Assistant | 48 | 27 Division Kashmir + 21 Division Jammu |
| Higher Education sub-total | 48 | |
| Supervisor | 3 | Labour and Employment Department |
| Grand total | 518 |
Two things stand out here. First, the Junior Pharmacist (211 posts) and Junior Staff Nurse (48 posts) dominate this advertisement, which is good news for paramedical candidates who have been waiting for a large-scale JKSSB health recruitment. Second, the vacancies are distributed by item numbers — Item 117 to Item 180 — and you apply item-wise, not department-wise. This leads us to a strategy point most applicants miss.
Eligibility Criteria — The Non-Negotiable Parts
1. J&K domicile is mandatory
Only candidates who are domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir can apply. You must hold a valid domicile certificate issued by the competent authority on or before 9 October 2026. If your certificate was issued later, your candidature can be rejected at document verification — no matter how well you score in the exam.
2. Educational qualification (post-wise)
| Post | Qualification required |
|---|---|
| Health Educator | Graduation with Science |
| Sanitary Inspector | 10+2 or above with minimum 2-year diploma in Sanitation and Public Health |
| Junior Pharmacist | 10+2 Science with degree/diploma in Pharmacy |
| Para Medical Assistant | 10+2 with diploma in Para Medical Assistant course |
| Junior Theatre Technician | Matric or above with degree/diploma in Operation Theatre Technology |
| Junior Ophthalmic Technician | Matric or above with degree/diploma in Ophthalmic Technician course |
| Junior Lab Technician | Matric or above with minimum 2-year diploma (or degree) in Lab Technology |
| Junior Staff Nurse | Matric with Science and diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) |
| FMPHW / MMPHW | Matric or above with Science and respective FMPHW/MMPHW diploma (minimum 1 year for MMPHW) |
| Junior Laboratory Assistant | Graduate with Science (preference for PG diploma in a professional laboratory course) |
| Horticulture Technician Grade-IV | 10+2 with relevant diploma |
| Senior Canning Attendant / Supervisor | Matriculation |
Crucially, you must have acquired the prescribed qualification on or before 9 October 2026. A diploma completed after that date — even by a day — makes you ineligible. Candidates shortlisted for document verification must produce original certificates as proof.
3. Age limit (as on 1 January 2026)
| Category | Maximum age | Not born before |
|---|---|---|
| Open Merit (OM) | 40 years | 1 January 1986 |
| SC / ST-1 / ST-2 / RBA / ALC-IB / EWS / OBC | 43 years | 1 January 1983 |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) | 42 years | 1 January 1984 |
No candidate born after 1 January 2008 can apply, in any category. Ex-servicemen can deduct their period of armed-forces service from their actual age, subject to the conditions in the notification.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General | Rs. 600 |
| SC / ST-1 / ST-2 / EWS / PwBD | Rs. 500 |
The fee is payable online only — net banking, credit card or debit card. Applications without the prescribed fee are summarily rejected, and the fee once paid is neither refunded nor adjusted against any other examination. Remember: the fee applies per item number applied for, so applying for multiple district items means multiple fee payments.
Pay Scale
| Post(s) | Pay level and scale |
|---|---|
| Horticulture Technician Grade-IV, FMPHW, MMPHW, Junior Laboratory Assistant, Supervisor, Senior Canning Attendant | Level-2: Rs. 19,900 – 63,200 |
| Junior Pharmacist, Para Medical Assistant, Junior Theatre Technician, Junior Ophthalmic Technician, Junior Lab Technician, Junior Staff Nurse | Level-4: Rs. 25,500 – 81,100 |
| Sanitary Inspector | Level-6D: Rs. 35,800 – 113,200 |
| Health Educator | Level-6: Rs. 35,400 – 112,400 |
For the exact pay level of a specific district item, refer to Annexure-A of the official notification before applying.
Selection Process — Written Exam Only, No Interview
Selection for all 518 posts is made purely on the merit of a written/OMR examination — there is no interview stage. The exam consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions, set in English only, and carries negative marking of one-fourth (25%) of the marks for every wrong answer.
The negative-marking math matters: four wrong answers wipe out one correct answer. Blank answers cost you nothing, so the smart approach is to attempt only what you can answer with reasonable confidence and leave genuine guesses alone. The exam date, venue and syllabus will be notified separately on the official JKSSB website — no requests for change of date or centre will be entertained.
Admission to the examination is provisional; the Board does not carry out detailed scrutiny of applications before the exam. The real scrutiny happens at document verification, where the smallest mismatch — a name spelled differently from your matric certificate, a blurred photograph, or a certificate in the wrong format — can cancel your candidature.
Mistakes That Get JKSSB Applications Rejected
- Entering name, date of birth, or parents’ names differently from the matriculation certificate — candidature can be cancelled at verification. Copy them exactly.
- Multiple applications for the same item number — leads to cancellation and even debarment. One application per item.
- Blurred or illegible photograph/signature — rejected summarily. Upload a live photograph and a signature within the specified 10–20 KB range.
- Assuming corrections are possible after submission — they are not. Review every entry before the final submit.
- Forgetting exam-day basics — carry two recent passport-size photographs and an original photo ID; phones, smartwatches and smart glasses are banned at the venue.
- In-service candidates must additionally forward a signed and stamped printout through their Head of Department to the Secretary, JKSSB, by the last date of document verification.

- Upload a live photograph, your signature (10–20 KB), category certificate (max 100 KB PDF) and self-attested qualification/experience certificates (max 100 KB PDF each).
- Pay the applicable fee online through net banking, credit card or debit card.
- Review all entries carefully — no changes are entertained after final submission.
