MP Police Constable Driver Recruitment 2026: 1,000 Posts, Apply Online 15–29 October — HMV Licence Must

Post Date: 15 Oct 2026 Updated: 15 Oct 2026 By: Raju

Forms open this morning. The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board — MPESB, the board everyone still calls MP Vyapam — has released the rulebook for the MP Police Constable (Driver) Recruitment 2026, and the online application window opens on 15 October 2026 on esb.mp.gov.in. This one is only for male candidates: 1,000 Constable Driver posts — 200 in the Special Armed Force and 800 in the District Police Force.

There is a reason this recruitment is making noise. Most police recruitments let you apply with just a 10th certificate. This one has a harder gate: a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle driving licence, in your hand, before the last date. No LMV licence, no learner’s licence — the rulebook is explicit. If you hold an HMV licence and have passed Class 10 (Class 8 for ST candidates), this drive is genuinely worth your morning.

Quick read: Apply online 15 October – 29 October 2026 (midnight) at esb.mp.gov.in / MP Online. 1,000 posts (800 District Police Force + 200 Special Armed Force), male only. Eligibility: Class 10 (Class 8 for ST) + valid HMV driving licence. Age 18–33 years (up to 38 for reserved categories) as on 29.10.2026. Total fee Rs. 700 (UR) / Rs. 350 (MP-domicile reserved). Written exam from 4 January 2027.

Last date to apply online 29 October 2026 (till midnight)

Written exam (tentative) 4 January 2027 onwards

Vacancy Split — 800 District Force + 200 Special Armed Force

The 1,000 posts are divided between two forces, and the split matters because physical standards and the nature of posting differ. The Special Armed Force posts carry horizontal reservation for Ex-Servicemen and Home Guards, and the same structure runs through the 800 District Police Force posts:

Post / Force Open Ex-Servicemen Home Guard Total
Constable Driver — Special Armed Force 150 20 30 200
Constable Driver — District Police Force / other than SAF 600 80 120 800
Total 750 100 150 1,000

The number of vacancies can be increased or decreased by the department — that line sits in the rulebook of nearly every MPESB drive, so treat the 1,000 as the notified figure, not a guarantee.

Eligibility — The Licence Is the Real Filter

The education bar here is low. The licence bar is not.

Category Educational Qualification
UR / SC / OBC Passed Class 10 under the 10+2 system (Higher Secondary or equivalent) from a recognised board/institution
ST Passed Class 8 or equivalent examination

In addition — and this is non-negotiable — every candidate must hold a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle driving licence. The rulebook treats the licence as an eligibility condition, so it must be valid by the last date of application (29 October 2026). A light motor vehicle licence or a learner’s licence does not count. If your HMV licence is still in process, you are not eligible this time.

Worth knowing: male-only drives with a licence condition usually draw a smaller, sharper applicant pool than open constable GD drives. A serious 10th-pass driver with a genuine HMV licence faces thinner competition here than in a 7,500-post general constable race.

Candidates who are not permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh can apply only against Unreserved Open vacancies — no reservation and no age relaxation for out-of-state applicants.

Age Limit (as on 29 October 2026)

Candidate Category Maximum Age
MP Unreserved male, MP EWS male, other-state male 33 years
MP SC / ST / OBC male; MP government/corporation/board/autonomous-body employees; Home Guards; eligible inter-caste marriage category; UR Vikram Award winners 38 years
Reserved-category Vikram Award winners 43 years

Minimum age is 18 years for everyone, and the age is calculated with reference to 29 October 2026 — the last date of application — which is different from the usual 1 January cutoff used in several MPESB drives. Relaxation benefits go only to MP-domicile candidates; other-state candidates get neither reservation nor relaxation.

Application Fee — Read the Two-Part Structure Before Paying

This is the section most websites get wrong, because the fee is split into two parts — an MPESB examination fee and a Police Department examination fee — and quoting only one half misleads readers.

Category MPESB Exam Fee Police Department Exam Fee Total
Unreserved Rs. 500 Rs. 200 Rs. 700
MP-domicile SC / ST / OBC / EWS Rs. 250 Rs. 100 Rs. 350

On top of this, a portal charge applies: Rs. 60 if you pay through an MP Online kiosk, or Rs. 20 through a registered citizen-user login. So the amount that actually leaves your pocket is up to Rs. 760 (UR, kiosk) or Rs. 370 (reserved, kiosk). Budget the portal charge in, because several candidates notice it only at the payment screen.

Selection Process — Written, Run, Documents, Driving Test

The drive runs in two stages. Stage one is the online written exam; stage two is the Physical Efficiency Test, document verification and the practical trade test.

Written exam pattern

Particulars Details
Mode Online, in Hindi
Questions 100 objective MCQs
Marks 100
Duration 2 hours
Negative marking None — attempt all 100
Subject Marks
General Knowledge and Logical Knowledge 40
Intellectual Ability and Mental Aptitude 30
Science and Simple Mathematics 30
Total 100

Candidates up to seven times the advertised vacancies are shortlisted for the PET based on the written exam cut-off percentile. Translation: the written paper is the real filter. After that, the driving trade test is qualifying in nature — you must clear it, but it does not decide your rank.

Physical Efficiency Test (800-metre run)

The PET carries 40 marks and consists of a single 800-metre run — one attempt. Regular candidates need a minimum of 20% in the run and at least 30% of the PET total (8 out of 40) to move forward. Final selection is made from candidates who qualify the PET and the trade test, ranked on the written-exam percentile, after document verification.

Strategy note: with no negative marking, leaving questions blank is pure loss. And because the trade test is only qualifying, a strong written percentile plus a competent 800-metre time is the entire game — driving skill matters for passing the trade test, but the merit list is built on the written paper.

Physical Standards — SAF vs District Force

The rulebook prescribes separate physical measurements for the Special Armed Force and the District Police Force. The chest requirements are slightly stricter for the District Force:

Force / Category (male) Height Chest (unexpanded / expanded)
SAF — UR / OBC 168 cm 79 cm / 84 cm
SAF — Gorkha / Garhwali / Kumaoni 157 cm 79 cm / 84 cm
SAF — Maratha / SC / ST 165 cm 79 cm / 84 cm
District Police — UR / SC / OBC 168 cm 81 cm / 86 cm
District Police — ST 160 cm 76 cm / 81 cm

Measure yourself honestly before applying. The chest expansion of 5 cm is checked, and the unexpanded minimum for the District Force (81 cm) is higher than for the SAF (79 cm).

Salary — Rs. 19,500 to Rs. 62,000 (with a probation catch)

Constable (Driver) is placed at Pay Level-4: Rs. 19,500 – Rs. 62,000. The part candidates discover later is the stipend structure: during the probation/training period, the payout is 70% of the minimum pay in the first year, 80% in the second and 90% in the third year, as per MP Government norms, with other state allowances applying over time.

How to Apply

Applications are online only, through MP Online linked from esb.mp.gov.in. The broad steps:

  • Open www.mponline.gov.in and go to Citizen Services, then the MPESB/ESB application link.
  • Open the MP Police Constable Driver Recruitment 2026 application and read the rulebook instructions first.
  • Complete the Aadhaar-based registration — Aadhaar registration is mandatory, and multi-level biometric verification runs through the process (keep Aadhaar unlocked for verification).
  • Fill personal, educational, category and other details; upload the photograph as prescribed.
  • Pay the two-part examination fee plus the portal charge, submit, and save the online application number — you need it for the admit card later.

Carry an original photo ID (Voter ID, PAN, Aadhaar, Driving Licence or Passport) to the exam centre — e-Aadhaar is accepted — along with the downloaded admit card and a black ball-point pen. Mobile phones, calculators and digital watches are not allowed inside.

Common Mistakes That Cost Candidates This Form

  • Assuming an LMV licence is enough. It is not. Only a valid HMV licence satisfies the rulebook, and it must be valid by 29 October 2026.
  • Paying only one half of the fee. The MPESB fee and the Police Department fee are separate — UR candidates pay Rs. 500 + Rs. 200.
  • Missing the home-district rule. Selected candidates are not posted in their home district, and a transfer out of the allotted unit normally requires 5 years of service there. Apply with that settled in your mind.
  • Skipping the correction window. Forms can be corrected from 15 October to 3 November 2026 — fix category or licence details there instead of filing a second form.
  • Guessing wrong about the trade test. The driving trade test is qualifying, not merit-based. Do not neglect the written paper while over-preparing for the wheel.

Candidates with the right licence who also follow transport-sector openings can track state transport corporation drives too — Haryana Bus Time Table covers Haryana Roadways driver-and-bus-related updates for readers across states.
