The wait is finally over for lakhs of railway aspirants. The Railway Recruitment Boards have released the RRB Technician Answer Key 2026 for CEN 02/2026 — the Computer Based Test held from 6 to 9 October 2026 for 6,557 Technician Grade-I Signal and Technician Grade-III posts. The provisional answer key, along with your question paper and recorded response sheet, went live on 15 October 2026 on the official portal.

If you sat for the CBT, here is exactly what to do today: log in, download and save your response sheet immediately, estimate your score with the marking scheme below, and raise an objection only if you are genuinely confident about a wrong key. This guide walks you through every step.

How to Download the RRB Technician Answer Key and Response Sheet

The answer key is not a common PDF you can download anonymously — it opens through an individual login. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to rrbapply.gov.in or the website of the RRB region you applied to.
  2. On the home page, find the link for the CEN 02/2026 Technician responses and objection tracker.
  3. Enter your registration number and your date of birth or password.
  4. Your question paper, recorded responses and the provisional answer key will appear on screen.
  5. Go through your answers one by one and compare each response with the key.
  6. Download and save a PDF copy — and take a printout too. Answer key links on RRB portals stay active only for a limited period, so do not leave this for later.

Good to know: No document upload is needed to view the answer key — your registration number and date of birth or password are enough. You do not need to pay anything just to view the key. The document list for Document Verification (DV) comes later; it will be listed in the CEN 02/2026 notification and in the DV notice if you are shortlisted.

If you appeared in the Technician exam, you can also revisit our earlier post on the RRB Technician Admit Card 2026 (CEN 02/2026) for the exam-day details and shift structure.

Do Not Confuse CEN 02/2026 with CEN 02/2025

This is a genuine and common mix-up, so read carefully. Search results for “Technician answer key” often mix two different recruitment cycles:

  • CEN 02/2025 — CBT was held in March 2026, and its objection windows have already closed.
  • CEN 02/2026 — CBT was held from 6 to 9 October 2026. This is the cycle whose answer key released on 15 October 2026.

Before you compare your answers, check that the CEN number on the login page reads 02/2026 and that the exam dates match yours. Comparing your responses against the wrong year’s key is a real mistake candidates make every season — and it leads to completely wrong score estimates.

How to Calculate Your RRB Technician Score from the Answer Key

The CBT follows a straightforward marking scheme, so you can estimate your raw score yourself:

Response Marks
Correct answer +1 mark
Wrong answer −1/3 mark (negative marking)
Unattempted question 0 marks

Formula: Estimated score = (Correct answers × 1) − (Wrong answers × 1/3)

Worked example: Suppose you attempted 80 questions, got 65 right and 15 wrong. Your estimate is 65 − (15 × 1/3) = 65 − 5 = 60 marks.

To help you gauge quickly, here is what a few common combinations look like:

Correct Wrong Unattempted Estimated score
70 20 10 63.33
65 25 10 56.67
60 30 10 50
55 25 20 46.67

Important caveat: Because the exam ran across multiple days and shifts, normalization may be applied before the final result. Your final marks can differ from this estimate. Treat it as a ballpark figure, not your official score. The qualifying marks and category-wise cut-offs for CEN 02/2026 have not been published yet.

How to Raise an Objection Against the Answer Key

If you believe a question, one of its options, or the answer provided in the key is wrong, you can challenge it online through the objection tracker — but only within the window set by the RRBs. The process works like this:

  1. Log in to the objection tracker with the same registration number and date of birth or password.
  2. Select the question you want to challenge.
  3. Choose the option you believe is correct and write a clear justification — a reference to a standard book, formula or rule strengthens your case.
  4. Pay the objection fee online for each challenged question.
  5. Submit the objection and keep a copy of the payment receipt.

A word on the fee: the sources used for this article did not confirm the objection fee for CEN 02/2026, so check the official notice on the portal before you pay. In earlier RRB answer-key windows the fee was Rs. 50 per question (plus bank charges), refundable if your objection was accepted.

Objection strategy that works: Challenge only the questions where you can clearly explain why another option is correct — blind challenges rarely succeed and cost you the fee. Work through your response sheet first, mark the genuinely doubtful questions, and prepare your reasoning before you open the objection form. Frivolous objections just add to the queue.

Vacancy and Pay Snapshot: CEN 02/2026

For context on what is at stake, here is how the 6,557 posts are distributed:

Post 7th CPC Level Vacancies
Technician Grade-I Signal Level 5 (Rs. 29,200–92,300) 323
Technician Grade-III (all trades) Level 2 (Rs. 19,900–63,200) 6,234

Category-wise, the totals are: General 2,728; SC 1,009; ST 597; OBC 1,565; EWS 658. Grade-III trades include Fitter (PU & WS) with 1,109 posts, Welder (PU & WS) with 584, Carriage and Wagon with 501, and Fitter (OL) with 469, among others. Eligibility for Grade-I is BE/B.Tech, an engineering diploma or a B.Sc engineering degree in the stated disciplines, with the age limit 18–33 years as on 1 July 2026; Grade-III needs Class 10 with ITI in the related trade (or Class 10 with Physics, Chemistry and Maths for some trades), with the age limit 18–30 years. Trade-wise qualifications and medical standards (such as B1, C1 or A3) are in the detailed CEN 02/2026 notification.

What Happens After the Answer Key

The selection stages for CEN 02/2026 are the CBT, Document Verification and Medical Examination. Once the objection window closes, subject experts review every challenge, and RRB publishes the final answer key along with the result and category-wise cut-off marks.

The official result date has not been announced. Some third-party websites expect the result in November 2026, but this is not confirmed by RRB — go only by official notices on rrbapply.gov.in or your regional RRB site. Use only official RRB websites for login and payment; the Boards do not ask for any payment just to view the answer key.

If the login page is slow or not opening: thousands of candidates are logging in at the same time. Wait and try again later, or switch to your regional RRB website instead of the central portal.
