The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has fired the starting gun on one of the biggest government job drives of the year. The TNPSC Group 4 Recruitment 2026, notified as Combined Civil Services Examination-IV (Group IV Services) under Advertisement No. 747 and Notification No. 11/2026, carries 6,574 tentative vacancies across 46 post entries — from Village Administrative Officer (VAO) to Junior Assistant, Typist, Steno-Typist, Bill Collector, Forest Watcher and Forest Guard.

To put the scale in perspective: this is TNPSC’s largest Group IV recruitment push in recent years, and nearly every seat traces back to a single three-hour OMR paper. There is no interview stage at all. The online application window opened on 6 October 2026 and closes on 5 November 2026 (11:59 PM), with the written examination fixed for 10 January 2027.

Eligibility — Most Posts Need Only SSLC (10th)

The notification prescribes qualification post-code by post-code, but the broad picture is friendly to 10th-pass candidates:

  • VAO, Junior Assistant, Bill Collector, Revenue Assistant, Tax Collector, Record Clerk and several other posts: SSLC / Minimum General Educational Qualification (10th pass or equivalent).
  • Typist and Steno-Typist posts: SSLC plus the prescribed Government Technical Examination in typewriting and/or shorthand — without the typing qualification, the Typist columns are closed to you.
  • Executive Officer Grade IV, Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies and certain specialised posts: a degree or subject-specific qualification.
  • Forest Watcher and Forest Guard: separate physical standards and an endurance test apply in addition to the written exam.
A 10th-pass strategy that many miss: if you only have SSLC and no typing certificate, the Junior Assistant pool (over 3,500 seats across codes) plus VAO (291), Bill Collector and Revenue Assistant are your real contest. Chasing Typist entries without the Government Technical Examination certificate only wastes a post preference. Match the post code to your certificate before you click submit.

Age Limit (as on 01.07.2026)

Post Group Minimum Age Maximum Age (Others)
Village Administrative Officer 21 years 30 years
Most Junior Assistant, Bill Collector, Typist and similar posts 18 years 30 years
Executive Officer Grade IV 25 years 35 years
Forest Watcher / Forest Guard with Driving Licence 21 years 30 years

Reserved categories (SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC, BCM), PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, Destitute Widows and other special categories get separate higher age concessions detailed post-wise in the notification. Date of birth is verified against the SSLC/HSC mark sheet, so keep that certificate ready.

Exam Pattern — And the Tamil Part A Trap

Selection is a single OMR-based written examination, followed by certificate verification and counselling. There is no interview. The paper:

Part Subject Questions Marks Duration
Part A Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test (SSLC standard, set in Tamil only) 100 150 3 hours (common)
Part B General Studies (Tamil + English) 75 150 (combined)
Part C Aptitude and Mental Ability 25
Total 200 300
The Part A gate nobody should ignore: Part B and Part C of your answer sheet are evaluated only if you score at least 40% (60 marks out of 150) in Part A. Fall below that Tamil threshold and the rest of your paper — however well you did in General Studies or aptitude — is never evaluated. Ranking is then computed on the total of all three parts. Candidates who are good at the objective sections but casual about SSLC-level Tamil are walking into the classic Group 4 trap: preparing for Part B and C first, Part A last, when Part A is the actual doorway. (Differently-abled candidates who studied only English can opt for General English instead, with a 40% minimum there too.)

Application Fee, OTR and the One-Way Fee-Concession Switch

Head Amount / Validity
Examination fee Rs 100 (exemptions as per rules)
One-Time Registration (OTR) Rs 150 — valid for 5 years from registration

OTR is mandatory but it is not the application itself — after registering, you must separately submit the online application for Notification No. 11/2026. If you already hold a valid OTR, do not create a new one.

Read this before you tick Yes/No: the fee-concession choice in the application form cannot be edited after successful submission. TNPSC counts the free chances you have availed across previous applications, and it may verify them at any stage. A false claim for fee exemption — suppressing information about previous applications — gets your candidature rejected after due process plus a one-year debarment from TNPSC examinations. Track your own availed chances; do not rely on the application-history display.

How to Apply for TNPSC Group 4 2026

  1. Open the TNPSC application portal and complete One-Time Registration (OTR) if you do not already have a valid one.
  2. Log in with your registered credentials and select Combined Civil Services Examination-IV / Notification No. 11/2026.
  3. Study the post codes carefully — choose the forest-post option (“All the Posts” vs “Posts other than Forest Guard / Forest Watcher”) only if you are willing to undergo the physical standards and endurance test.
  4. Select two examination centres of your choice (one for persons with benchmark disability) — centre change requests later are not permitted.
  5. Enter personal, educational and category details, upload the photograph, signature and certificates in the prescribed format.
  6. Pay the examination fee of Rs 100 or claim exemption carefully (the Yes/No choice is final).
  7. Review every field, submit before 05.11.2026, 11:59 PM, and save the application number and submitted application.

Photograph rules are unusually strict this cycle: a recent colour passport photo (3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, 20–50 KB, JPG, 200 DPI) with your name and date printed at the bottom, taken on or after the notification date 06.10.2026. Studio photos that skip the name-date strip are a common rejection point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the last date to apply for TNPSC Group 4 2026?
A. The online application window closes on 05 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. The correction window is open from 09 to 11 November 2026.

Q. What is the TNPSC Group 4 2026 exam date?
A. The OMR-based written examination is scheduled for 10 January 2027, from 09:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Q. Is there an interview in TNPSC Group 4?
A. No. Selection is through a single written examination, followed by certificate verification and counselling.

Q. What happens if I score below 40% in Part A?
A. Part B and Part C of your answer sheet will not be evaluated at all. You must score at least 60 out of 150 marks in the Tamil eligibility test for the rest of your paper to count.

Q. Can I apply with only a 10th pass certificate?
A. Yes, for a large number of posts including VAO, Junior Assistant, Bill Collector and Revenue Assistant, SSLC is the minimum qualification. Typist/Steno posts additionally need typewriting/shorthand certificates.

Q. Where is the job location?
A. All posts are in Tamil Nadu government departments, services, corporations and boards.

The scale of this drive means competition will be fierce — but it also means this is the single largest 10th-pass-friendly government vacancy window in Tamil Nadu this year. If you are eligible, the two things that decide your fate are applying before 5 November and not underestimating Part A. Everything else follows from the notification.
