Indian Bank Apprentices Recruitment 2026: 1,500 Posts, Apply 5 to 25 November
Day-1 alert: the online application window for DSSSB Advertisement No. 05/2026 opened on 13 October 2026 at 12:00 noon. Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board is filling 25 Group-C posts — Sweeper / Safai Karamchari (Post Code 46/26) and Chowkidar (Post Code 47/26) — in the District & Sessions Courts, Delhi. Applications close on 11 November 2026 at 11:00 PM on the OARS portal dsssbonline.nic.in. This first-day guide covers the fee twist, the Advt 04/2026 confusion, and why the written exam decides almost everything.
At first glance this looks like a small recruitment — 25 posts is modest next to the 641-post court recruitment DSSSB announced days earlier. But small does not mean unimportant. These are permanent-style Group-C posts with a proper pay scale, the eligibility bar is just a 10th pass, and Delhi court jobs at this level draw heavy competition every single cycle. If you are eligible, the first week of the window is the best time to apply — portals are fastest now, and you keep the full window open for corrections if something goes wrong.
The Fee Twist — Most Candidates Pay Nothing
Read the fee table of Advt 05/2026 carefully, because it is upside down compared to most recruitments. Only General, OBC and EWS male candidates pay Rs. 100. Everyone else is exempt:
- All women candidates — of every category — pay nil
- SC and ST candidates — nil
- PwBD candidates — nil
- Ex-Servicemen — nil
The exemption list is genuinely longer than the paying list. Fee is paid online only through SBI e-pay — no other mode is accepted — and once paid it is not refunded under any circumstances. So the practical advice is simple: if you are in an exempt category, do not pay anything even if a cyber-cafe operator insists a “processing fee” is needed. The official fee for you is zero.
Advt 04/2026 vs 05/2026 — Do Not Apply in the Wrong Advertisement
This is the confusion that will cost candidates their application. DSSSB has two live District Court recruitments running side by side, and they look similar until you read the advertisement number:
| Advt 04/2026 | Advt 05/2026 (this one) | |
|---|---|---|
| Posts | 641 — Senior Personal Assistant, Personal Assistant, Junior Judicial Assistant, Process Server, Peon / Orderly / Dak Peon | 25 — Sweeper / Safai Karamchari (10), Chowkidar (15) |
| Post codes | Different set (e.g. 802/23 series and others) | 46/26 and 47/26 |
| Apply window | 6 October – 4 November 2026 | 13 October – 11 November 2026 |
| Qualification | Varies by post (graduate level for most) | 10th pass for both posts |
Both recruitments are for the District & Sessions Courts, both run through DSSSB, and both accept applications on the same OARS portal. Filing your form under the wrong advertisement number — or worse, paying the fee against the wrong post code — is a mistake you cannot undo after submission, because no correction is entertained once the form is submitted. Double-check that the advertisement number on your screen reads 05/2026 before you start.
If you were actually looking for the bigger court recruitment, we have covered it separately: DSSSB Delhi District Courts Recruitment 2026 — 641 posts, apply online 6 Oct to 4 Nov. Read that one instead — do not mix the two up.
DSSSB Sweeper & Chowkidar 2026 — Important Dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Notification (Advt 05/2026) | 9 October 2026 |
| Online application opens | 13 October 2026 (12:00 noon) |
| Last date to apply online | 11 November 2026 (11:00 PM) |
| Last date for fee payment (SBI e-pay) | 11 November 2026 (11:00 PM) |
| Cut-off date for qualification & experience | 11 November 2026 |
| Exam / interview date | To be notified by DSSSB |
Vacancy Breakup — 25 Posts, Two Post Codes
| Post | Post Code | UR | OBC | SC | ST | EWS | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sweeper / Safai Karamchari | 46/26 | 5 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 10 |
| Chowkidar | 47/26 | 7 | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 15 |
| Total | 12 | 6 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 25 |
Both posts are Group-C in the District & Sessions Courts, Delhi, on the pay scale of Rs. 5,200–20,200 with Grade Pay Rs. 2,000. The notification marks the vacancies as tentative — they can be increased, decreased or withdrawn by the user department. Two Ex-Servicemen vacancies are included in the totals (one per post); no vacancy is earmarked for PwBD or meritorious sportspersons in this advertisement.
Eligibility — 10th Pass Is the Only Bar
Educational qualification: Matriculation (10th) pass or equivalent from a recognised board — for both Sweeper/Safai Karamchari and Chowkidar. No desirable qualification, no experience requirement. The crucial date for deciding whether you hold the qualification is 11 November 2026.
Nationality: you must be a citizen of India.
Age limit: you must have attained 18 years and must not have attained 27 years, with age reckoned as on 1 June 2026. In plain terms: you must have been born not earlier than 2 June 1999 and not later than 1 June 2008. Only the date of birth recorded in your Matriculation certificate (or equivalent available on the date of application) is accepted.
| Category | Age relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| OBC | 3 years |
| PwBD + UR / EWS | 10 years |
| PwBD + SC / ST | 15 years |
| PwBD + OBC | 13 years |
| Ex-Servicemen | Military service period + 3 years (up to 55 years max) |
One relaxation that does not exist here, and candidates often assume it does: government employees with 3+ years of regular service get no age relaxation — the notification explicitly records that the Delhi District Courts Rules, 2012 provide none, as clarified by the user department in May 2026.
Selection Process — The 100-Mark Written Test Decides Almost Everything
Selection runs in three stages: Objective/MCQ test (100 marks) → Interview (15 marks) → medical examination and document verification. Here is the part most candidates miss: the interview carries only 15 marks, and there is no minimum qualifying mark in the interview at all. The written test is 100 of the 115 total marks — that is where your selection is actually won or lost.
Objective / MCQ Test — 100 Marks
| Part | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| English | 25 | 25 |
| Hindi | 25 | 25 |
| General Knowledge (including Current Affairs) | 25 | 25 |
| Arithmetic | 25 | 25 |
| Total | 100 | 100 |
- Duration: 120 minutes (160 minutes for PwD candidates)
- Marking: 1 mark per question, with negative marking of 0.25 per wrong answer
- Language: bilingual (English and Hindi), except the English and Hindi language papers themselves
- Minimum qualifying marks: 50% for UR/EWS, 45% for OBC (Delhi) / SC / ST / PH (PwBD) / ESM
The negative marking is the silent rank-killer in a 10th-level paper: with only 100 questions, every four wrong guesses erase one correct answer. Candidates who attempt everything usually score below careful candidates who skip what they do not know.
Interview — 15 Marks
The interview is conducted by the Office of the Principal District & Sessions Judge (HQs). A maximum of 10 times the number of vacancies is called for interview based on the written test. There is no minimum qualifying mark — but do not treat it as a formality either: with only 25 posts, a 3–4 mark swing in the interview can still move you several ranks on the final list.
The One-Form-Per-Post Rule — Where Applications Get Rejected
DSSSB allows only one online registration and one application per post code per candidate. The consequences are practical:
- Applying for only Sweeper (46/26) or only Chowkidar (47/26) → one application.
- Eligible and interested in both posts → file two separate applications, one per post code.
- Multiple submissions for the same post code → rejection. Do not file a “backup” second form for the same post.
Two more trip-wires from the notification. First, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificates must be issued on or after 1 April 2026 and up to 11 November 2026 — older OBC certificates are not valid for this recruitment. Second, applications are accepted online only; forms sent by post, by hand or by email will not be accepted, and no change or correction is entertained after submission.
How to Apply Online (13 October – 11 November 2026)
- Go to the DSSSB OARS portal at dsssbonline.nic.in and click “Click for New Registration” if this is your first application.
- Complete registration with valid personal details, a photo identity proof and active mobile number/email, then log in with the user ID and password generated.
- Select the correct post code — 46/26 for Sweeper/Safai Karamchari or 47/26 for Chowkidar — and fill the application form carefully.
- Upload a recent clear colour photograph (plain white or off-white background) and your signature in the prescribed specifications.
- Pay the fee online through SBI e-pay if applicable (Rs. 100 for General/OBC/EWS men; nil for women, SC, ST, PwBD and ESM).
- Submit before 11 November 2026, 11:00 PM, then download and print the final submitted form for your records.
First-week advice: apply early in the window rather than in the final days, when the portal slows under load and SBI e-pay transactions start failing. Keep a printout of the exact photograph you upload — the notification asks candidates to carry it when required — and note the exam-day dress code mentioned in the advertisement (light clothes with half sleeves, slippers/sandals).
Documents to Keep Ready
- Matriculation (10th) certificate — for both qualification and date of birth proof
- Recent colour photograph and scanned signature (as per specifications)
- Category certificate (OBC-NCL issued on/after 1 April 2026, EWS, SC, ST) if claiming benefit or fee exemption
- PwBD / Ex-Serviceman certificate, if applicable
- Photo identity proof used at registration
- Printout of the submitted application form
FAQs
Q. How many posts are there in DSSSB Advt 05/2026?
A. 25 posts in total — 10 Sweeper/Safai Karamchari (Post Code 46/26) and 15 Chowkidar (Post Code 47/26), in the District & Sessions Courts, Delhi.
Q. What is the last date to apply?
A. 11 November 2026 up to 11:00 PM. The window opened on 13 October 2026 at 12:00 noon.
Q. I am a woman candidate. What fee do I pay?
A. Nothing. All women candidates are fully exempt from the application fee, regardless of category. Only General/OBC/EWS male candidates pay Rs. 100.
Q. Is there any interview?
A. Yes, but it carries only 15 marks with no minimum qualifying mark. The 100-mark MCQ written test (with 0.25 negative marking) is the decisive stage.
Q. Can I apply for both Sweeper and Chowkidar posts?
A. Yes — but you must file two separate applications, one for each post code (46/26 and 47/26). Multiple applications for the same post code lead to rejection.
Q. Is this the same as the DSSSB 641-post court recruitment?
A. No. That is Advt 04/2026 (Senior PA, PA, Junior Judicial Assistant, Process Server, Peon — apply 6 Oct to 4 Nov). This is Advt 05/2026, a separate 25-post recruitment for Sweeper and Chowkidar. Do not mix up the advertisement numbers while applying.
