The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited — NEEPCO, the Mini Ratna power generator that runs the North-East’s big hydro projects — has opened one of the rare PSU openings dedicated only to safety engineers. Under Advertisement No. NEEPCO/04/2026 dated 11 October 2026, the corporation is hiring 4 Executive Trainees (Safety) in the E-2 grade on the IDA pay scale of Rs. 50,000–3%–1,60,000. Online applications run from 11 October to 31 October 2026 on the official NEEPCO recruitment portal.
Most PSU Executive Trainee drives filter engineers through GATE and take safety as an afterthought. This one is built the other way round: the entire test — 75 out of 100 CBT marks — is Professional Knowledge on industrial and fire safety. That makes it a genuinely different animal from a general engineering ET post, and it is one of the few PSU doors of 2026 open specifically to industrial-safety graduates. Read the eligibility carefully though: the qualification is a two-part condition, and several applicants will be rejected on that one point alone.

Vacancy Details — Only 4 Seats, Category-Wise
The notification lists exactly four seats for Executive Trainee (Safety), E-2 grade, Post Code HR/85:
| Post / Grade | UR | OBC (NCL) | SC | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Executive Trainee (Safety), E-2 | 02 | 01 | 01 | 04 |
Four seats means competition will be tight — but it also means the applicant pool self-filters fast, because the safety-specific qualification knocks out most general engineering graduates.
Eligibility — The Two-Part Qualification That Trips Applicants
This is the section most people need to read twice. You are eligible through either of these two routes:
- Route A: A full-time diploma in industrial safety with a minimum of 65% marks (55% for SC candidates) along with a degree in engineering in Mechanical, Electrical or Production from a recognised institute.
- Route B: A degree in engineering in Industrial Safety / Fire and Safety with a minimum of 65% marks (55% for SC candidates) from a recognised institute.
Desirable experience: one year of post-qualification experience in statutory safety compliance, development or auditing of safety systems, promotion of safety culture, and safety inspection of machinery and buildings under the Factories Act. Experience in safety training and firefighting is an added advantage. Note this is desirable, not mandatory — freshers who meet the qualification can apply.
Age Limit (as on 1 July 2026)
| Category | Maximum age |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 30 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 33 years |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 35 years |
| SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/ESM/PwBD | Relaxation as per Government of India guidelines |
| J&K domicile (01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989) | Relaxation as per Government of India guidelines |
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General / EWS / OBC (NCL) | Rs. 560/- (non-refundable) |
| SC / Ex-Servicemen / Female candidates | Exempted (no fee) |
The fee is paid through SBI e-Pay in favour of NEEPCO. One nuance worth knowing: SC, ST and PwBD candidates applying for unreserved posts must pay the fee — the exemption applies only within their own reserved categories. The fee, once paid, is not refunded under any circumstances.
Salary, Allowances and the E-3 Upgrade
Executive Trainees are placed in the IDA pay scale of Rs. 50,000–3%–1,60,000. Monthly emoluments include basic pay plus DA, HRA (35% of basic where corporation accommodation is not available), cafeteria/site allowance (LBA) at 10% of basic pay + DA, EPF and NEEPCO’s defined-contribution pension (NEEDCSS) at 9% of basic + DA — with a stated minimum monthly CTC of about Rs. 1,00,000. On top come leave, medical benefits for self and dependent family members, performance-related pay (PRP), gratuity, uniform, communication expenses and furniture reimbursement as per company rules.
After the 1-year training period — spent at one or more corporation locations, likely around NEEPCO’s hydro, gas and renewable stations — successful trainees move up to the E-3 grade.
Selection Process — Scrutiny, Then a Safety-Heavy CBT
Selection runs in three stages:
- Scrutiny of online applications — shortlisting is based on marks obtained in the engineering degree and the industrial-safety diploma/degree, along with experience. The percentage you enter matters here, so fill graduation marks accurately.
- Computer Based Test (100 marks) — two sections: Section 1: Professional Knowledge Test (SKT) on Industrial Safety / Fire & Safety carrying 75 marks, and Section 2: Executive Aptitude Test (EAT) on numerical ability, reading comprehension, reasoning, general awareness and data interpretation carrying 25 marks.
- Personal Interview.
The 75:25 split is the strategic point of this entire recruitment: three-quarters of the written test is domain knowledge — Factories Act safety, fire and safety engineering, safety systems and auditing. If you come from a safety-engineering background, this paper rewards you far more than a GATE-score shortlist ever would; if you are a general mechanical engineer cramming aptitude, this is not your test.
How to Apply Online
- Log on to the official NEEPCO recruitment portal (linked below) and open the Careers/Executive Trainee section.
- Register and fill the online application form with accurate details of graduation marks, percentages and experience.
- Pay the application fee (Rs. 560/-, where applicable) through SBI e-Pay.
- Upload scanned documents: proof of date of birth, complete mark sheets and certificates for Class X, Class XII and the engineering degree, experience certificates, category certificates in Government of India format (OBC-NCL issued in the current financial year), PwBD certificate, CGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate, a recent passport-size colour photograph (JPEG, 20–100 KB) and signature (JPEG, 20–100 KB).
- Submit the form and take a printout of the system-generated registration slip for future reference.
Applications must be submitted on or before 31 October 2026. For queries, the HR department can be reached at recruitment@neepco.co.in (contact email from the official notification).
