ISRO URSC Recruitment 2026: 61 Technician-B & Driver Posts – Apply Online Till 13 November

Post Date: 30 Oct 2026 Updated: 30 Oct 2026 By: Raju

ISRO has opened the doors to its Bengaluru satellite centre for ITI tradesmen and drivers – and this is not a routine fresher drive. The U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) notification, Advertisement No. URSC:04:2026, dated 24 October 2026, offers 61 posts of Technician-B and Driver-A, with online applications open from 24 October to 13 November 2026. If you hold an ITI certificate in a relevant trade, or a valid driving licence with the required years on the road, this is one of the biggest central-government openings of the month for 10th-pass candidates.

What makes this recruitment different from the usual state-level ITI vacancies is the employer itself. URSC is ISRO’s lead centre for satellite technology – the place behind the INSAT and IRS satellite systems and missions like Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1. These 61 posts are described as temporary but likely to continue, and selected candidates will work at Bengaluru, with some vacancies identified for the Master Control Facility (MCF) at Hassan and the Department of Space.

Important dates (Advt. URSC:04:2026): Online applications opened on 24 October 2026 and close on 13 November 2026. The same date – 13 November 2026 – is the last date for fee payment and the crucial date for age and eligibility. The notification does not announce written-test or skill-test dates; those will appear only on the ISRO and URSC websites, so check them regularly after applying.

Vacancy Details: 61 Posts Across 11 Post Codes

Technician-B accounts for 46 of the 61 posts, spread over eight trades. Electronics Mechanic alone has 24 seats – more than half the Technician-B total – so candidates from electronics trades have the widest opening here. The 15 driver posts are split into Heavy Vehicle Driver-A (10), Light Vehicle Driver-A (3) and Staff Car Driver-A (2).

Category-wise, the 61 seats break up as UR 40, SC 4, ST 2, OBC 5 and EWS 10. A large share is also earmarked for ex-servicemen – 21 Technician-B vacancies and 8 driver vacancies (2 Light Vehicle and 6 Heavy Vehicle), most of them backlog vacancies – and several trades carry PwBD reservations, including backlog seats. If you belong to one of these categories, read the post-wise reservation column of the official notification before choosing your post code, because the reservation differs trade by trade.

Eligibility: What You Actually Need

For every Technician-B trade, the minimum is the same pattern: SSLC / SSC / Matriculation pass plus ITI / NTC / NAC in the relevant trade from NCVT. The Electronics Mechanic post (code 01) accepts a cluster of related trades – Electronics Mechanic, Technician Power Electronic Systems, Mechanic Consumer Electronic Appliances, Instrument Mechanic and Mechanic Industrial Electronics – which is good news if your ITI certificate carries one of those allied trade names rather than the exact headline trade.

Driver posts work differently, and this is where many applications go wrong. All three driver categories need SSLC / SSC / Matriculation or equivalent plus a valid driving licence for the relevant vehicle class. On top of that, Light Vehicle Driver-A needs 3 years’ experience as a light vehicle driver, Staff Car Driver-A needs 3 years’ experience, and Heavy Vehicle Driver-A needs 5 years’ experience, of which at least 3 years must be as a heavy vehicle driver. Two conditions in the notification deserve attention: the counted experience must have been gained after obtaining the valid licence, and experience certificates are accepted only from government / semi-government agencies, registered companies, societies or trusts – not from individuals, and not for part-time work. If your experience letter comes from an individual, it will not count.

Age limit for all posts is 18 to 35 years as on 13 November 2026. SC/ST candidates get 5 years’ relaxation and OBC candidates 3 years, but only against vacancies reserved for their category – against unreserved seats, no relaxation applies. Central government servants, ex-servicemen, PwBD candidates, meritorious sportspersons, widows and divorced or judicially separated women are eligible for relaxation under Government of India orders, with certificates to be produced at the skill-test stage.

Pay Scale and Application Fee

Technician-B posts are in Pay Level 3, with approximate gross emoluments of Rs. 21,700 per month plus admissible allowances. All three driver posts are in Pay Level 2, at approximately Rs. 19,900 per month plus admissible allowances. These are the starting figures quoted in the notification; allowances will add to the in-hand amount.

The fee structure has a small catch that is easy to misread. The non-refundable fee is only Rs. 100, but every applicant initially pays Rs. 500 per application through the Bharatkosh portal or payment gateway (internet banking, domestic debit or credit card, or UPI). Rs. 400 is refunded – but only to candidates who actually appear in the written test. Women, SC/ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, who are exempt from the fee, get a full refund. In short: pay Rs. 500 now, sit the exam, and Rs. 400 (or the full amount, if exempt) comes back. Skip the exam and the refund is not considered at all.

Selection Process: The Screening Step Most People Miss

Meeting the minimum qualification does not automatically get you into the written test. The notification is explicit: there is an initial screening based on academic performance and other parameters in the online application, and only screened-in candidates are called for the written test. Your ITI marks therefore matter twice – once for eligibility and once for getting shortlisted.

Technician-B: Written test of 80 multiple-choice questions in 1.5 hours, with +1 mark for a correct answer and -0.33 for a wrong one. The pass mark is 32 out of 80 for unreserved candidates and 24 out of 80 for reserved candidates (where the post is reserved). The syllabus is curriculum-based. Candidates are shortlisted for the skill test in a 1:5 ratio, with a minimum of 10 candidates per post. The skill test is qualifying in nature, for 100 marks, with a pass mark of 50 for unreserved and 40 for reserved candidates. In a tie of written-test and academic scores, candidates holding a valid NAC score get preference.

Driver posts: Written test of 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes, with -0.25 for each wrong answer. The paper has four parts: Part A (50 questions) on the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988; Part B (15 questions) on elementary English at Class 8 level; Part C (15 questions) on elementary arithmetic at Class 10 level; and Part D (20 questions) on general knowledge. Passing needs 50% in Part A and 50% combined in Parts B, C and D, relaxed by 25% for reserved-category candidates where the post is reserved. Shortlisting for the skill test is in a 1:10 ratio, and the skill test (including a driving test) is qualifying – 100 marks, pass mark 60, with no relaxation. The written test may be held in Bengaluru or other cities across India, and the skill test follows for screened-in candidates.

Three mistakes to avoid: (1) Applying for a trade your ITI certificate does not exactly match – check the allied-trade list for code 01 and the single-trade rule for other codes. (2) Counting driving experience from before you held a licence, or from an individual employer – neither counts. (3) Assuming the Rs. 500 fee is the real fee – it is Rs. 100 net, but only if you turn up for the written test, so do not apply casually and then skip the exam.

How to Apply Online

Applications are online only. The application link is hosted on the ISRO and URSC websites (isro.gov.in / ursc.gov.in). Read the full advertisement before filling the form, keep your educational, caste, experience and licence documents ready for upload, and complete the fee payment through the Bharatkosh gateway that appears on submitting the form – an application without fee received by 13 November 2026 is not considered. Government employees must inform their employer and produce a No Objection Certificate at the skill-test stage; without the original NOC, a candidate is not permitted to appear for the skill test. Outstation candidates shortlisted for the skill test after qualifying the written test are paid to-and-fro second class or sleeper railway fare by the shortest route, but only after document verification at the skill test.

One final caution from the notification itself: do not fall for fake appointment letters for ISRO jobs. All genuine updates – test dates, call letters and further stages – are published only on the ISRO and URSC websites and sent to the candidate’s registered email.
