Supreme Court Junior Court Assistant Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 250 Posts

Post Date: 08 Oct 2026 Updated: 08 Oct 2026 By: Raju

The Supreme Court of India has opened one of the most watched central-government recruitments of the year — and the application window opened yesterday, 7 October 2026. Under Advertisement No. F.6/2026-SC (RC) dated 30 September 2026, the Registry is preparing a panel for 250 tentative vacancies of Junior Court Assistant (Group-B, Non-Gazetted), placed in Level 6 of the Pay Matrix with an initial basic pay of Rs. 35,400 plus allowances.

On paper this looks like a standard graduate-level post. It is not. Two features make this recruitment behave differently from every SSC or bank clerk drive you have seen: the 35 w.p.m. typing test is a hard filter — your descriptive paper is not even evaluated unless you clear it — and a full 25 of the 100 objective questions come from judiciary-specific law that no generic competitive-exam book covers well. Read the article fully before you apply; the application, once submitted, cannot be modified or withdrawn.

Quick read: Online applications run from 7 October 2026 to 28 October 2026 (11:55 PM) on www.sci.gov.in — online only, no postal form. Bachelor’s degree + computer knowledge + 35 w.p.m. English typing, age 18–30 as on 1 September 2026. Fee: Rs. 1,500 (UR) / Rs. 750 (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Ex-SM/PwBD) via UCO Bank gateway.

Vacancy Details — What “Tentative” Actually Means Here

A total of 250 tentative vacancies have been announced. The notification is unusually blunt about what that word covers: the number of posts may change “due to administrative exigencies and/or the requirement of the Registry”, and the Registry reserves the right to cancel, restrict, enlarge, modify or alter the selection process itself, without issuing any notice. All rights regarding the selection process stay with the Competent Authority.

Read this before you count seats: this recruitment prepares a panel, not immediate postings against fixed sanctioned posts. Being on the panel and getting appointed are two different things, and the Registry can shrink the process midway. That does not make applying pointless — panels are how the Registry actually staffs the Court — but do not treat 250 as a guaranteed final count. Reservation benefits apply as per Rule 4A of the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961.

Eligibility Criteria (as on 1 September 2026)

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree of a recognized University in India.
  • Computer knowledge: Knowledge of computer operation, with a typing speed of 35 w.p.m. on computer (in English).
  • Age: Not below 18 years and not above 30 years as on 1 September 2026.

Note the reckoning date carefully: eligibility is frozen as on 1 September 2026, not on the closing date of applications. If your degree result came after that date, you do not meet the printed condition.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Category Age limit (as on 01.09.2026)
General / Unreserved 18–30 years
SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / Physically Challenged / Ex-Servicemen Relaxation as per Government of India Rules
Dependents of freedom fighters Up to 5 years over and above 30 years
Departmental candidates of the SCI Registry No upper age limit

One clause that surprises applicants every cycle: no age relaxation is allowed to candidates already working in other Government Departments, Public Sector Undertakings or Nationalized Banks. If you are a serving employee elsewhere, you compete on the same age ceiling as a fresher.

Salary — What a Junior Court Assistant Earns

The post is placed in Level 6 of the Pay Matrix, with an initial basic pay of Rs. 35,400/- per month plus allowances admissible under the rules of the Supreme Court of India. For a Group-B Non-Gazetted post in New Delhi, the allowances (DA, HRA, transport) lift the in-hand figure well above the basic — this is comfortably the best-paid general graduate court-assistant post in the country.

Application Fee

Category Fee (non-refundable)
General / Unreserved Rs. 1,500/- plus bank charges
SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / Ex-Servicemen / Physically Challenged Rs. 750/- plus bank charges

The fee is paid online only, through the payment gateway provided by UCO Bank. No other form of payment is accepted, no postal application form is accepted, and the fee once paid is not refunded under any circumstances.

Selection Process — Four Stages, and the One That Filters Most People Out

Stage Test Duration Max marks Minimum qualifying marks
1 Objective Type Test (100 MCQs) 1½ hours 100 50
2 Typing Speed Test on Computer (English, minimum 35 w.p.m.; mistakes allowed: 3% of total words typed) 10 minutes 50 25
3 Written Test (Descriptive, in English) — comprehension passage, precis writing, essay writing 2 hours 100 50
4 Interview — 25 13
  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer in the Objective Type Test.
  • Shortlisting: if a large number of candidates clear the objective paper, only the top candidates in a 1:10 ratio against the tentative vacancies move to the typing + descriptive stage, based on objective-test merit. Candidates clearing all three tests are shortlisted for interview in a 1:3 ratio.
  • Answer-key objections: can be filed online only, within the notified window, at Rs. 100 per objection — refunded if the objection is found valid.
The single most misunderstood rule of this recruitment: the Typing Speed Test is mandatory — the descriptive answer sheets are evaluated only for candidates who qualify the typing test. Clearing the objective paper with 90 marks means nothing if you fail the typing test, because your precis and essay will never be read. Treat typing as a first-round cutoff, not a side skill.

The 35 w.p.m. Typing Requirement — Why It Eliminates Most Graduates

Thirty-five words per minute sounds easy. It is not — at least not under exam conditions. Most graduates who type daily on phones or casually on laptops manage roughly 25–30 w.p.m. on a desktop keyboard, and that is without the 3% error ceiling: more than 3 mistakes per 100 words typed fails you outright. The test runs only 10 minutes, so there is no time to recover from a shaky start, and it carries its own qualifying bar of 25 out of 50 marks — this is a scored test, not a pass/fail formality.

Practically, this means: start timed practice now, on a physical keyboard, with English passages, measuring both speed and error percentage. A candidate at 30 w.p.m. today needs roughly three to four weeks of daily practice to hold a clean 38–40 w.p.m. under pressure. If you wait until the objective result to start practising, you are already late — the gap between the objective test and the typing test can be days, not months.

The Syllabus Trap — 25 Marks No Generic Guidebook Covers

Look at the objective paper’s break-up: 20 General English (with comprehension), 15 General Aptitude, 15 General Knowledge, 15 on provisions relating to the Judiciary in the Constitution of India, 10 on the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, 10 on the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961, and 15 Computer Knowledge. That is 25 out of 100 questions drawn from judiciary-specific material — and the qualifying bar is 50.

Here is the strategic implication most aspirants miss: a generic SSC-CGL-style preparation plan maxes out at about 65 questions of this paper. The judiciary-specific 25 are the cheapest marks on offer for anyone who reads the actual sources — the Constitution’s judiciary chapters, the Supreme Court Rules 2013, and the 1961 Service Rules — because almost nobody else prepares them seriously. If you are scoring 45–55 in mocks, these 25 questions are where your selection is decided.

Test Centres and Practical Points

The Objective Type Test is conducted at cities across India (listed in Annexure-A of the advertisement), with candidates exercising their preference order — though the Registry can shift or change centres and no request for a change of centre or date is entertained. The Typing Speed Test and the Descriptive Written Test are held in Delhi/NCR only, and the Interview is conducted either online or physically in Delhi. No TA/DA is payable for any test or the interview, and admit cards are downloaded from the SCI website — none are sent by post. Outstation candidates should budget for at least one Delhi trip; the notification gives no room to negotiate this.

How to Apply Online

  1. Go to www.sci.gov.in between 7 October 2026 and 28 October 2026 (11:55 PM) and open the online application link for Junior Court Assistant.
  2. Fill the form with accurate personal, educational and category details. Name, father’s name, mother’s name and date of birth must match your Class 10 / High School certificate exactly.
  3. Upload scanned copies of your recent photograph, signature, Class X, Class XII and graduation certificates, plus caste/community certificate (reserved categories) or disability certificate, if applicable.
  4. Furnish the undertaking that you have read and understood the advertisement’s terms and conditions.
  5. Pay the fee online through the UCO Bank payment gateway.
  6. Preview the completed form, submit, and take a printout for your records (it does not need to be sent to the Registry).
  7. Retain your Application Number carefully — you will need it to generate the admit card later from the SCI website.
Keep a valid personal email ID and mobile number active throughout the process — all communication comes via SMS and email. Government/PSU/bank employees must produce a No Objection Certificate from their employer at document verification, and must intimate the Recruitment Cell immediately if they take up employment after applying.

Mistakes That Get Applications Rejected

  • Submitting more than one form: only the latest application number is considered; earlier fee payments are not refunded.
  • Changing your category later: no request for change of category filled in the online form is entertained — get it right the first time.
  • Name mismatches: any difference between the form and your Class 10 certificate creates a document-verification problem.
  • Fake documents or impersonation: leads to removal/disqualification, prosecution, and debarment from future appointments in the Registry.
  • Last-day rush: the window closes at 11:55 PM on 28 October 2026. Server load on the final evening is a real risk with a UCO Bank payment gateway in the chain — apply at least a few days early.
